Age-Related Macular Degeneration

Provide Hope for Seniors Suffering from Age-related Macular Degeneration

Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) is one of the most common ailments among aging Americans.  As many as 15 million Americans over the age of 50 have already been diagnosed with AMD.  More amazingly, approximately one-third of all seniors over age 75 suffer from deteriorating central vision caused by AMD.

Unfortunately, despite the widespread effects of this disease, no cure has yet been found to reverse the effects of AMD – leaving many seniors literally in the dark.

We need your help NOW to tell Congress to provide increased funding for the National Institutes of Health to further their research on AMD and find more effective treatments for those suffering from this vision-robbing disease, and, possibly, find a cure.

During AMD Awareness Week 2006, a number of Congressmen were awarded the Brighter Vision Award for their ongoing support for increasing the awareness of AMD among their at-risk constituents.  Grandma Green along with TSC’s Board Members visited with about 40 of these congressmen to present the award, along with the whitepaper, AMD: A Policy Blueprint to Protect America’s Seniors and to discuss the future of these efforts.
