Dr. R. Tracy Williams has 25 years experience as a low
vision practitioner. He is a graduate of the Illinois College
of Optometry and completed a low vision externship at the
New York Lighthouse under the supervision of Eleanor Faye,
M.D. Dr. Williams served as an Assistant Professor at the
Illinois College of Optometry and received the “Outstanding
Faculty Award” two of the four years he was on staff.
Dr. Williams also served as the Director of Low Vision Services
at the Chicago Lighthouse and received their “Outstanding
Service Award” for his clinical work spanning over
ten years.
Dr. Williams is currently the Executive Director of the
Deicke Center for Visual Rehabilitation, which is a nationally
accredited, not-for-profit agency providing service to over
1300 visually impaired individuals annually. Dr. Williams
is also the Director of Low Vision Services at Loyola University,
Department of Ophthalmology where he is currently a Director
of Low Vision Services and Clinical Associate Professor.
Dr. Williams was appointed by the Governor to serve on the
Illinois Blind Services Planning Council in 1994 and continues
to serve today.
Dr. Williams is a well-known speaker, world-wide, in the
field of low vision rehabilitation and was elected to the
American Optometric Association Low Vision Section as its
Chair-elect for the coming year. Dr.Williams has received
many awards for his work with the visually impaired, his
dedication to teaching professionals and the establishing
of low vision clinics internationally and throughout the
United States. Dr. Williams recently was elected “Optometrist
of the Year” by the Illinois Optometric Association.
Dr. Williams has served the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago
Bulls as a team doctor since 1986.
Dr. Williams is a veteran of mission work and educational
training abroad serving in, Haiti, Guatemala, Saudi Arabia,
and India.
