Supporters Respond to “Million Petition Challenge”
Supporters of The Seniors Coalition are responding positively to Coalition President Dr. Joseph Bridges "Million Petition Challenge."
Petitions continue to pour into TSC from around the country from seniors who are fed up with Washington.
Late last year Bridges challenged Coalition supporters to sign and return a total of one million petitions demanding CoLA reform, one million protesting extending Social Security to illegal aliens and one million supporting a Social Security lock box. The petition drives for these three issues were already the largest in TSC history and Bridges wants each campaign to surpass one-million within the first six months of 2012.
"So far, our folks are responding enthusiastically," reports Director of Membership Services Sean Ferritor. "Petitions on all three issues arrive each day. We then are routinely sending reports on these petition campaigns up to Capitol Hill."
All three issues are considered to be at the top of TSC's 2012 agenda and petition campaigns related to each one have been generating huge numbers of signed petitions for years. However, Dr. Bridges told the TSC Executive Board last year that 2012 would be a pivotal year for America's seniors and that he wanted the Coalition to redouble its efforts make sure the voices of America's senior citizens are heard.
And, so far, so good.

5/17/13 As I predicted yesterday, the House passed HR 45 to fully repeal the President's nationalized health care plan. This news isn't surprising considering that Republicans control the House. There was a very telling sign though, and a sign that we are all hoping will carry over into the Senate, two Democrats, Congressman Matheson and Congressman McIntyre, both voted for the full repeal. As I stated last week, there has been growing concern among Democrats that ObamaCare could be a mounting disaster. TSC will continue to lobby for a full repeal in the Senate.
5/16/13 The House of Representatives will vote on legislation today to totally repeal ObamaCare. Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann's bill, HR 45, will be voted on this afternoon and should pass the republican controlled House with ease. Seniors Coalition members who participated in this year's legislative survey voted overwhelmingly (99%) for The Seniors Coalition to continue to fight for a full repeal, and today, at least in one chamber, there will be a vote. We will continue to press the Senate, where several democrats have openly criticized the President's health care plan, to vote on full repeal as well.
5/14/13 As you can see from the lead story on this website, the 2013 Legislative Results have been released. I want to thank each and every Seniors Coalition member who participated in this years comprehensive survey. Your results are being sent to every member of the House and Senate, as well as President Obama and key officials in the Social Security Administration. I am also issuing a press release to be sent out to the major networks, including Fox News and CNN.
5/13/13 There will be lots of interesting things going on in Washington this week. Republicans spent the weekend blasting the IRS and the President over the IRS's alleged targeting of Tea Party groups looking to file for tax exempt status. The Benghazi debacle is still a hot button topic, as there has been a grumbling for impeachment of President Obama over the handling of this tragedy. And the House of Representatives will vote this week on full repeal of ObamaCare. I will be on the hill monitoring all the action first hand, and will continue to report on all my activities.
5/10/13 Good news from Capitol Hill. Speaker Boehner and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell sent a letter to President Obama yesterday declining to recommend appointments to the Individual Payment Advisory Board (IPAB). TSC has been fighting against the death panels and will continue to do so. Here is a quote from the joint letter that pretty much sums it up nicely, "Because the law gives the IPAB's fifteen unelected, unaccountable individuals the ability to deny seniors access to innovative care, we respectfully decline to recommend appointments." Look for a vote on full repeal of ObamaCare in the House of Representatives next week.
5/9/13 The survey results from this year's national member survey are now on the front page of The Seniors Coalition website. The results show unequivocally that The Seniors Coalition's mission is strongly supported by our loyal members. Now it is my goal to report these results to all 435 U.S. Representatives, all 100 U.S. Senators, President Obama, key Social Security and Medicare officials, as well as the national news media. I will make sure all of them know what issues are important to senior citizens across this great nation and I will make sure they understand that The Seniors Coalition has the support of more than 4 million patriotic Americans!
5/7/13 The results are due today for The Seniors Coalition's 2013 Legislative Survey. I want to thank all TSC members who took the time to fill out this year's survey, and let you know that the results will be posted here on this website in the next day. Results will also be sent out to the House and Senate, as well as the President. A press release with your survey results will also be sent to several national media outlets. Thanks again for your participation, and look for the results within the next 24 hours.
5/6/13 As Congressmen and Senators begin to make their way back into the Nations Capitol today, a busy three weeks lays in front of them. As I mentioned last week, I am hearing from Speaker Boehner's office that the House will pass legislation next week for a full repeal of ObamaCare. While facing stiff opposition in the Senate, and obviously the White House, concern for a nationalized health care and the costs we will all incur has reached both sides of the isle. Make sure and call your elected officials today and demand that they vote for a total repeal.
5/3/13 It's the last day of recess for Congress, so I wanted to use today's post to once again remind TSC members to visit our membership benefits page. I received a couple of calls yesterday from members requesting more information on the Congressional Federal Credit Union. I urge anyone who hasn't already contacted me on this incredible benefit to do so as soon as possible. Also, with summer travels right around the corner, be sure to take advantage of great savings at all the Wyndham properties around our great nation.
5/2/13 The House and Senate will both return to work on Monday, and be in session for the next three weeks. While on the Hill yesterday, I learned from my contacts at Speaker Boehner's office that the second week of the three week work period could start the new fight to fully repeal ObamaCare. Several prominent Democrats have recently voiced their concerns over the cost of this program. The White House is even scrambling to reassure Americans that his plan can work, by shortening forms that most Americans will have to fill out under the new plan. Call your Congressman today and demand that he or she vote for full repeal. 202-224-3121.
4/30/13 I want to thank all TSC members that have participated in the 2013 Legislative Survey. Responses have been pouring in for over a month now, and I will be releasing the results in the very near future. For all TSC members that have not yet filled out and returned their Legislative Survey, there is still a little time to have your opinions counted in the final tallies. The results will be finalized and ready to report within the next week.
4/29/13 Please make sure and visit The Seniors Coalition's membership benefit page at the top of the home page. I have been seeing some incredible savings from TSC members all across the country using our Prescription Discount Cards. If you have not received your card, I urge you to contact me today at TSC@SENIOR.ORG. You will be blown away by how much money you can save on all of your prescription purchases.
4/26/13 Congress will head into recess next week, and will not be back in town until May 6th. I want to urge all TSC members to use this time to call your Congressmen and Senators and DEMAND that they cosponsor HR 1585, the Guaranteed 3% CoLA bill that Congressman Engel reintroduced two weeks ago. The best time to really get the ear of any congressional staff is to call when they are on recess, so please do your part and pick up the phone today! 202-225-3121.
4/25/13 Sorry for not posting yesterday, I was at my usual off the record meeting on Capitol Hill with the most conservative and powerful groups in Washington. I have spoken of this meeting many times over the last year and a half and just wanted to assure all TSC members that you, as a member of The Seniors Coalition, are being represented at the highest level in Washington. I have cultivated relationships with Speaker Boehner's office, as well as Senate Minority Leader McConnell's office, and these relationships will prove to be paramount in dealing with seniors issues over the course of the 113th Congress.
4/22/13 The House and Senate are beginning the third week of work before they take a recess on Friday. Last week's gun control debate in the Senate has left the House in limbo, waiting to see if there would be a reason to take up the issue themselves. My sources on the Hill are speculating that immigration reform could be the next major issue to come before the House, but it won't be this week due to time constraints. I will keep you posted as new information becomes available.
4/19/13 Good news from Capitol Hill, Congressman Engel has reintroduced his Guaranteed 3% CoLA bill. Congressman Engel's bill, HR 1585 was reintroduced on Tuesday, and The Seniors Coalition can take credit in helping to urge Congressman Engel and his staff to continue to champion this needed legislation. With the President continually pushing his new Chained CPI method of calculating inflation, Congressman Engel's bill could prove to be incredibly importatnt. I urge all TSC members to contact your elected officials and demand that they cosponsor HR 1585 today! 202-224-3121
4/18/13 Sorry for not posting yesterday, I was on Capitol Hill at my usual Wednesday meeting of the most powerful and conservative groups in Washington. Congress is currently on a three week work period being totally dominated by gun control and the upcoming immigration battle. As you can read from yesterday's voting in the Senate, the constitution's second amendment was protected yesterday by party lines. My sources tell me the House may not even have to take up this issue now that it has failed in the Senate. More news to come as it is available.
4/16/13 After yesterday's unthinkable tragedy in Boston, I just want to use today's post to urge all TSC members to pray for the families and victims of yesterday's devastating attack on innocent civilians. America will stand together and make sure that the responsible parties will be brought to a swift and just punishment.
4/15/13 I attended a press conference on Friday at the United States Capitol held by Grover Norquist and the American's for Tax Relief organization. Several prominent Congressmen attended this event to discuss the President's budget and rumored 1.3 trillion dollar tax increase over the next decade. Several members, including Norquist, talked about their apprehension for the President's new Chained CPI (Chained Weighted Consumer Price Index) method of measuring inflation. This was welcome news as The Seniors Coalition has continually said this method will cost seniors money in years to come with smaller CoLAs. The new Chained CPI method excludes argueable the highest expense seniors face yearly, health care. We will continue push back against this short sided idea until it has been shelved.
4/11/13 President Obama rolled out his version of the budget yesterday to Congressional lawmakers, and the response has been less than enthusiastic. It seems the President is once again targeting senior citizens in his attempt to continue his enormous spending spree. It shouldn't be no surprise that his approval rating yesterday also dipped to its lowest since 2008. As we at TSC have been saying for over a year, leave the senior citizens earned social security money out of your negotiations Mr. President. Good news for seniors, and America, my contacts on Capitol Hill have told me that there is no chance the President's budget will pass the House of Representatives.
4/10/13 Today Obama will introduce his nine weeks late budget plan to Congress and already it has created tension. His approach to the Social Security plan prompted angry responses from both sides of the aisle, including angering his liberal base. President Obama continues to target seniors rather than cutting government spending, and The Seniors Coalition will continue to fight for the money that senior citizens have earned through a lifetime of hard work.
4/9/13 All technical difficulties have been corrected here at TSC headquarters. Both the Senate and House are back in full session this week and I will be on Capitol Hill to monitor this weeks votes. President Obama has been on a full push for any type of gun control law he can get, but my sources on the Hill tell me it will be almost impossible to get any type of gun control through the Republican controlled House. More details to follow on this issue as soon as they become available.
4/8/13 I would like to take a moment to commend House Speaker John Boehner for rejecting President Obama's budget proposal last Friday. Part of the president's proposal included changes to Social Security and Medicare, including an approximate $400 billion cut to Medicare over a decade and a reduction of the annual CoLA for seniors. This is absolutely unacceptable because it targets the elderly who value their Social Security and Medicare. Mr. President, please leave senior citizens alone! On another note, TSC has been experiencing some technical difficulties with our telephone service but we hope to have it resolved later today. We thank you for your patience and please feel free to contact me at: tsc@senior.org or later today by phone at: (202) 261-3594.
4/5/13 On this beautiful Friday in April the battle in Washington is ugly as ever. We need your voice to prove to the Washington elites that their political games are not appreciated. That is why I will continue reading all of the important comments we have received from senior citizens and I will collect and process all the survey information and prepare the petitions that you have signed. With these powerful tools TSC will show our Congressmen and women that seniors value their rights and want them protected. Together we cannot be ignored and with your treasured support we will continue fighting for you and fighting for America. I would also like to remind you to be vigilant and check your mailbox for an important message from TSC's President and CEO Dr. Joseph L. Bridges. Thank you for your continuing support.
4/3/13 This was a long day at TSC, but most of the time was spent reading your letters and comments. It's always good to hear from our members and supporters at the grassroots. We value your opinions! Please call or e-mail any time: (202) 261-3594 or tsc@senior.org. We had a great phone call this afternoon from Maxine in Lake Forest, California. She had received a duplicate copy of one of our membership renewal notices. This happens sometimes because of data processing errors and other reasons. We always appreciate the opportunity to clean up these duplicates, because it saves us money that can be better spent on programs to protect your retirement security. If you get more than one copy of one of our letters or notices, please let us know, so we can correct it for you. Or, feel free to pass the extra materials along to a friend who might want to join in our membership drive, or sign onto our petition drive. Our members and supporters make everything we do possible. Thanks for your continuing loyalty!
4/2/13 With Congress out on recess, I wanted to use today's post to highlight some comments I received from a Seniors Coalition Member today. Martin S. from Manalapan, NJ wrote in to say, "I am not your average senior. I read you material with great interest. I agree with you that a "Lock Box" law must be passed immediately. I just don't know where the funds should be put after it's created, after all Congress has already robbed the initial trust fund dry. I also agree that ObamaCare must be repealed. There are some parts that maybe good for the nation, but I think most of it will cost a fortune and limit choices. Please keep up the great work, and I sincerely appreciate all that you are doing." Thanks for writing in Martin, and we will continue to fight the battle for seniors rights!
4/1/13 Hope you all had a wonderful Easter Holiday. It looks like one of the first orders of business in the Senate when they get back in town in two weeks will be Immigration reform. The Gang of Eight in the Senate have been all over the news lately and plan on introducing their legislation within the next two weeks. TSC will be following this issue closely to make sure no totalization language is included in any bill before either chamber.
3/28/13 Sorry for not posting yesterday, I was on the Hill attending my usual off the record meeting with the most powerful and conservative groups in Washington. I also want to mention that the TSC offices will be closed tomorrow in observance of Good Friday. Hope you all have a wonderful Easter weekend and look for new information on what's going on in Washington on Monday.
3/26/13 The House and Senate are out of session for the next two weeks, and we here at TSC are taking advantage of this down time to regroup and prepare for a long spring and summer on Capitol Hill. As I do periodically during the year, I want to hear from you. What issues are the most important to you for the remainder of the 113th Congress? Email me your thoughts at TSC@SENIOR.ORG.
3/22/13 As our 2013 membership drive is nearing it's conclusion, I wanted to send one last WELCOME to all of our new Seniors Coalition members. As I have said many times in phone conversations and on this blog, power in Washington DC comes in numbers, and all of our new members have made The Seniors Coalition even stronger. Thanks again to all new Seniors Coalition members, and remember you can always get in touch with me directly at TSC@SENIOR.ORG.
3/21/13 Sorry for not posting yesterday, I was at my usual Wednesday meeting with the most powerful and conservative organizations in Washington, DC. The Senate voted yesterday to pass a spending bill to avoid the looming government shutdown, and I am learning from my contacts on the Hill that the House is poised to pass this legisation as well. Good thing for seniors is that the spending bill and sequestration have for the most part kept seniors out of the firing line as far as cuts go. I will continue to monitor these events and report on any new details as they emerge.
3/19/13 Congress is back in full session this week and will attempt to avert the looming government shutdown on March 27th. My sources on Capitol Hill are telling me that both parties are cautiously optimistic, but generally know that their jobs are at stake if they once again fail to avoid this senseless crisis. It's really a shame when Congressmen and Senators decide to act sensibly only when their jobs are on the line. Call your elected officials today and tell them to do right by the American people. 202-224-3121
3/18/13 Sorry for not posting for the latter part of last week, I was representing The Seniors Coalition at the Conservative Political Action Conference here in Washington, DC. This years event was definately one to remember, with political leaders from the Republican Party speaking on the importance of bringing conservative values back to the American public. Leaders such as Mitt Romney, Rand Paul, Paul Ryan and Marco Rubio spoke eloquently on their visions of how conservatives can change the path America is currently heading in. Did you watch CPAC? I want to hear your opinion on this years conference. Email me directly at TSC@SENIOR.ORG.
3/12/13 House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan and House Republicans have released their plan to balance the budget in ten years. The House is again ahead of the Senate, which has yet to produce a budget under President Obama's leadership. I want all TSC members to call your elected representatives and urge them to support this legislation, 202-224-3121.
3/11/13 Congress is back in session today, as Congressmen and Senators slowly fly into town. Both chambers are set to be in session for the next two weeks, and these could be two pivotal weeks in the debt battle. I will continue my presence on Capitol Hill to ensure that Social Security and Medicare are not used as negotiating chips. Make sure and call your elected representatives to have your voice heard. 202-224-3121.
3/8/13 I want all Seniors Coalition members to make sure and sign and return your guaranteed 3% CoLA petition that will be arriving at your house in the mail shortly. Congressman Engle has yet to reintroduce this legislation, so it is imperative that we have all the support possible to encourage the Congressman to again sponsor the Guaranteed 3% CoLA for Seniors Act.
3/7/13 The snow has left the DC area, as have the Congressmen and Senators. After attending my usual meeting in DC yesterday with the most conservative and powerful groups in DC, I spoke with staff from Speaker Boehner's office right before Congress passed a spending bill that would avoid a government shutdown later in the year. The Speaker's office seems confident that both parties can come to a mutual agreement and do what's right for the American people. Action now falls at the Senate's feet. I will keep you posted on details as they arise.
3/5/13 Seniors Coalition Call To Action! As I stated yesterday, it is becoming more and more apparent that the President is once again setting his sights on seniors to try and fix the spending problems on Capitol Hill. I want to urge ALL TSC members to call your Congressman and Senators today and demand that they vote against any cuts in Social Security and Medicare. 202-224-3121. We will continue to monitor this situation from the ground level on Capitol Hill and keep you aware of any breaking news.
3/4/13 And just as I warned last week on this blog, the President is at it again. News from the White House has surfaced that yesterday President Obama is once again threatening to use senior citizens as his fall back plan to save money. He is again using the phrase "entitlement" when referring to Social Security and Medicare, even though you have been forced into paying into these programs your entire lives. Here is a direct quote from White House senior official Gene Sperling, "He's (Obama) reaching out to democrats who understand we have to make serious progress on long term entitlement reform..." The Seniors Coalition will continue our battles on Capitol Hill to remind the President that senior citizens will not continue to serve as the President's personal whipping post.
3/4/13 I want to publicly thank a Seniors Coalition friend today, Senator David Vitter of Louisiana. Senator Vitter has again taken the lead in the Senate and re-introduced S.110, the Social Security Lock Box Bill of 2013. We will continue to garner support for Senator Vitter's bill and do everything we can to gain cosponsors for a bill that should have been passed twenty years ago. Thanks again for all that you do for seniors Senator Vitter!
3/1/13 Well the date has arrived, later this afternoon sequestration cuts will become law, as members of the House and Senate have already left Washington for their districts. I want to highlight a letter I received recently from Norman H, from Apple Valley, CA. Norman wrote in on another subject that we should all be ready to deal with in the very near future. Norman wrote, "I would like to thank you and your staff for proctecting our Social Security Trust Fund. I would also like to inform The Seniors Coalition members that Obamacare can still be stopped in the courts like some other states have done." Thanks for the kind words Norman, and we at TSC will continue to fight for an outright repeal of Obamacare.
2/28/13 After spending the last two days up on Capitol Hill, Sequestration is still the topic everyone is talking about. With tomorrow's deadline steadily approaching, it seems that there will be one last ditch effort to avoid across the board cuts. TSC is still staying intensly on top of this issue to make sure that seniors aren't dragged into any last ditch effort by politicians to make themselves look better in the public eye. I'll continue to keep you up to date with all breaking news as it becomes available.
2/26/13 As I pointed out yesterday, things are heating up with the sequestration deadline looming. Both parties took turns blaming each other yesterday, as the seriousness of these cuts is becoming all to real. I will be on the Hill today and tomorrow monitoring this situation closely to make sure seniors aren't somehow dragged into this debate. I will also be stopping by Congressman Engel's office to urge him to re-introduce his guaranteed 3% CoLA bill.
2/25/13 Congress will be back in session this week with the looming sequestration cuts just four days away. President Obama again used scare tactics over the weekend with the intent of forcing Congress to compromise on the upcoming 1.3 trillion dollar cuts. I want to hear your opinion on this situation. Do you think that across the board spending cuts are good for the overall debt? And since the Senate hasn't approved a budget in four years, do you think this will finally get their attention and force them to do the job the American people elected them to do? Contact me directly at TSC@SENIOR.ORG.
2/22/13 I just want to let all of my "Super Seniors" members know to be on the lookout for a special letter that should be arriving over the weekend. I have sent you a detailed recap of TSC's actions over the lame duck session of Congress, as well as laying out strategies for the next four years facing a lame duck President. For information on how to become a Super Senior please email me at TSC@SENIOR.ORG.
2/21/13 Sorry for not posting yesterday, I was at my usual Wednesday off the record meeting with the most powerful conservative groups in Washington, DC. Things here in DC seem to be focusing primarily on avoiding the upcoming sequestration cuts that will be automatically triggered on March 1. Both parties have cautiously resigned to the fact that these cuts are now unavoidable, and at the same time, necessary. Don't believe everything you hear from the White House, President Barack Obama's signature is on the bill to trigger these cuts and yet he still continues to blame Republicans for this situation. More news to come on this as it becomes available.
2/19/13 I wanted to share a letter with all TSC members that I received recently from Eugene M in Bristol, CT. Eugene wrote, "I'm amazed that something wasn't done earlier to stop Congress from tapping the Social Security funds. To me Congressmen who took funds for personal reasons or pork barrel deals would be considered thieves and their names and amounts and reasons for using Social Security funds should be publicized. This should have been done a long time ago. I wish you great success in all your endeavors." Thanks Eugene, and we will continue to work to save Social Security for all seniors.
2/18/13 With the President's day holiday today, Congress has taken the entire week off and will resume next week. We at TSC are not taking any breaks and will continue to work on your behalf. I want to thank all of you that responded to last weeks question on President Obama's State of the Union address. Stay tuned for more to come on that issue.
2/12/13 With tonight's State of the Union address on everyone's mind here in Washington, there was some good news yesterday. Apparently President Obama has stated that raising the age requirement for Medicare is off the table in any future debt negotiations, which is a good thing for seniors. There is also some bad news to report, President Obama and Senate democrats are continuing to try and change the way senior's CoLAs are calculated. TSC will continue to adamantly fight against the Chained CPI calculation system which omits many of the items senior citizens buy on a daily basis.
2/11/13 Tomorrow night is the State of the Union address by President Obama. I want to hear what you think is the most important issue facing seniors in the upcoming year, and what you would like to hear the President address specifically. Send me your thoughts at TSC@SENIOR.ORG.
2/8/13 I want to make sure and let all TSC members know to be on the lookout for our latest petition drive on CoLA reform. You should be receiving your latest petition in the mail any day now. TSC will continue our all out press on Congress to finally address this issue for a fair and adequate way to ensure that seniors are given what they deserve. The Seniors Coalition currently has over 170,000 signed petitions and I want to make sure we can garner as many petitions as we can to take to Capitol Hill. As always, if you have any questions or comments, you can reach me directly at TSC@SENIOR.ORG.
2/5/13 House Majority Leader Eric Cantor is scheduled to give a speech today at the American Enterprise Institute that he hopes will give the GOP a "makeover." After some serious soul searching following the 2012 elections, Cantor's office says, "Our solutions will be based on the conservative principles of self reliance, faith in the individual, trust in the family, and accountability in government." I want to hear your thoughts on Leader Cantor's speech. Email me directly at TSC@SENIOR.ORG.
2/4/13 The Seniors Coalition's 2013 Membership drive is coming to an end, and it has been one of the best ever. Thank you to all the loyal members who have been with us for so long, and welcome aboard to all of our new members. Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have at TSC@SENIOR.ORG.
1/31/13 Sorry for not posting yesterday, I attended my usual Wednesday meeting on Capitol Hill with the most conservative and powerful organizations in Washington, DC. Immigration reform has been pushed to the top of the list, and it looks like this issue isn't going anywhere for a while. Many people on the Hill are starting to openly discuss the looming "sequester" across the board budget cuts, as there is little hope for any type of compromise. Immigration reform does affect seniors directly do to Social Security concerns. I will continue to monitor this debate closely and post the latest news as it becomes available.
1/29/12 With Congress out this week on a short recess, I wanted to use today's post to highlight a letter I received from a TSC member Sarah B from Gettysburg, PA. "Thank you for your hard work to protect my Social Security. Please keep the politicians out of our Social Security and Medicare. We worked hard to put that money in there. Some very long days, 9 and 10 hours a day. And sometimes even on Saturdays. It's just not fair for the politicians take what we earned and were promised. Please keep up the good job." Thanks for the letter Sarah, and we will continue to work on your behalf.
1/25/13 Good news from Capitol Hill today, I spoke with Congressman Eliot Engel's office to inquire about the future status of H.R. 776, the Guaranteed CoLA Act from the last Congress. Congressman Engel's aide has assured me that they have every intention of reintroducing the Guaranteed CoLA Act again in the 113th Congress, and as soon as the bill has been reintroduced and has a bill number, I will inform you all so that you can be sure and call your Congressmen and urge them to cosponsor this important legislation.
1/24/13 Sorry for the late post today, there was some inclement weather here in the Washington, DC area last night. After spending most of the day on Capitol Hill yesterday, my connections in the Speaker's office have said that there will be no more votes this week, and the House will be in a week long recess next week. It seems that the first major battle will be the fiscal cliff debate and a strong desire by both chambers to produce a budget for the first time in four years. I will continue to follow this issue closely and keep you all informed as soon as information is available.
1/22/13 The Inauguration has come and gone, and now it's time to get back to work. The Seniors Coalition will continue our work establishing contacts on Capitol Hill to try and further our fight for the rights of senior citizens. CoLA reform, a Social Security Lock Box and the fight against President Obama's nationalizing of our health care system will be at the top of our agenda. Thanks to all TSC members who sent emails with your "wish lists" for the new Congress.
1/21/13 Happy Martin Luther King Day to all TSC members. Today is also the inauguration day which will be filled with ceremonies and gala's. Tomorrow it's back to work for the new Congress and we will be following closely to see exactly how the new session will unfold. Please continue to send me your "wish list" for the upcoming year at TSC@SENIOR.ORG.
1/18/13 It seems that the House of Representatives is mulling over the idea of yet another debt ceiling extension, with reports now saying this new extension will run through April, 2013. The American people deserve to see a budget, something the Senate has failed to do in the last four years. I will continue to follow this story closely and give all details as they become available.
1/17/13 After spending most of the day on Capitol Hill yesterday, the topic of conversation on almost everone's mind continues to be the upcoming debt ceiling debate. I have been receiving lots of emails from TSC members with their "wish lists" for the upcoming legislative year, so please keep them coming. Email me directly at TSC@SENIOR.ORG.
1/15/13 Make sure and tune in to CSPAN this morning at 10:00am to hear the United States Constitution be read, word for word, for only the second time in the History of America's most sacred document. Speaker Boehner is making a statement to the current administration, as well as the Senate, to adhere to the rules that the founding fathers envisioned over two hundred years ago. All members of the House of Representatives have been invited to participate.
1/14/13 I want to hear from as many Seniors Coalition members as possible over the next two weeks to find out what is the most important issue facing seniors in 2013. Please email me directly with your thoughts and hopes for the new Congress at TSC@SENIOR.ORG.
1/11/13 Things here in Washington have slowed to a crawl. The Senate is in recess until January 22nd, where they will come back in session to an immediate "rule challenge" by Senate majority leader Harry Reid. It is widely expected that Senator Reid will attempt a political manuever to eliminate the filibuster, something he is on record as saying is an imperative tool in politics. Call your Senators and Congressman today and demand that no such "rules change" be allowed. 202-224-3121.
1/10/13 After spending the day on Capitol Hill yesterday, including attending my usual Wednesday meeting with the most conservative and influential organizations in Washington, DC, it seems that the next couple of weeks, even months, will be dominated by Presidential nominations and the debt ceiling debate. I will continue to represent all TSC members on the Hill and provide daily updates on my activities.
1/7/13 Happy New Year to all TSC members. The lame duck session of Congress has come and gone and there are several things for TSC members to be happy with. The hated Chained-CPI proposal to change how senior citizens CoLA's are calculated has failed. While nothing was done to revamp how Social Security and Medicare are run, at least each program was taken out of the sights of Congress for the time being. With the new Congress officially sworn into action, it's time to get back to work here at The Seniors Coalition. I will continue my daily updates to keep you all up to date on what is going on in Washington, DC.
1/1/13 TSC opposes the fiscal cliff deal that raises the Death Tax, allows taxes on medical devices to go into effect and specifically does nothing to reform Medicare or save Social Security.
12/31/12 It seems that the ridiculous "chained CPI" gimmick may be dead for now and that is good news for seniors. The bad news coming out of the fiscal cliff negotiations is that the Death Tax may not be repealed and may remain at it's current level. The President wants the hated tax to actually expand, so stopping that would be a small victory. However, TSC still supports the complete repeal of this tax and we believe the votes are there in both the House and the Senate to make that happen.
12/28/12 President Obama is apparently ready to offer some type of fiscal cliff solution that will be much smaller in scope and may even be temporary. TSC is pressing for the complete abolition of the death tax, Medicare reform and a repeal of the payroll tax "holiday" which is destroying Social Security. We oppose any effort to increase taxes on dividends or capital gains. TSC will be issuing a statement on any fiscal cliff proposal that might be considered this weekend.
12/27/12 We just learned the House of Representatives is being called back into session this Sunday to possibly consider new tax and spending legislation. We will keep everyone updated if or when a new plan or compromise is announced.
12/21/12 House Speaker John Boehner's plan B towards avoiding the fiscal cliff was effectively shelved last night, due to lack of support within the Republican party. It seems that the fiscal cliff is becoming more of a reality as the clock towards January 1, 2013 continues to run out. Partisan bickering has got to be changed in the US Government if any real changes are ever expected out of Washington, DC. It seems that both Chambers have left town for the Holidays, with no concrete plans to return before the start of the new year. TSC will continue to monitor any related action towards the fiscal cliff over the Holidays, if there is any to monitor that is. Have a Wonderful Holiday Season from all of us at The Seniors Coalition!
12/20/12 Sorry for not posting yesterday, I spent the day on Capitol Hill at meetings and monitoring the "fiscal cliff" negotiations. Things are not looking good for a deal to be made before the January 1, 2013 deadline. There is a sizable gap in negotiations on both sides of the isle. As I warned on Tuesday, President Obama has once again set his sights on senior citizens benefits, benifits you have all worked a lifetime to earn. As a practice, I don't believe in posting retread stories from other sites, but this story has to be shared. Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, who for years has said she is against cutting senior citizens Social Security benefits, is once again showing her true colors. Democrats are proposing a new way to calculate your annual CoLA, and their plan leaves out the biggest cost to seniors every year, the price of health related care. Please read this story and send your comments to me at TSC@SENIOR.ORG. www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/12/19/nancy-pelosi-social-security_n_html
12/18/12 Just wanted to add another post today to shed some light on the President's "new proposal", which has senior citizens directly in his path. It seems that President Obama is trying to save money on the backs of senior citizens. The Obama administration is proposing to change the way CoLA's are calculated. The Seniors Coalition adamantly opposes the President's new idea of a "Chained CPI" system, which highlights certain areas of inflation, such as food and gas, but does not account for the highest expense seniors have today, healthcare. TSC will continue to fight against the Chained-CPI, and I encourage all TSC members to call your Congressman and Senators today to demand they do the same. (202-224-3121)
12/18/12 President Obama has counter-offered Speaker Boehner's budget proposal to avoid the looming "fiscal cliff", and it's actually a decent offer, coming more towards the middle grounds in negotiations with Republicans in the House of Representatives. While on the hill yesterday, I learned that in light of the recent tragedy in Connecticut, both parties are eager to put partisan bickering behind them and do what's right for the country. Stay tuned for more details to come.
12/17/12 Only one full week until Christmas, and still no deal between Republicans and President Obama to try and avoid the "fiscal cliff". Over the weekend, Speaker Boehner has again presented President Obama with a plan to try and solve the nation's fiscal problems. I have a feeling things may start moving a lot faster in light of Friday's devastating tragedy in Connecticut. Stay tuned here for breaking news as it becomes available.
12/14/12 Speaker of the House John Boehner and President Obama met at the White House again last night for negotiations on the looming "fiscal cliff". Although no details from the meeting were released, I am hearing that a solution to this problem is likely going to be a last minute deal, if at all. I will continue to use my contacts on Capitol Hill to keep all TSC members up to date on new information as it is available.
12/13/12 Sorry for not posting yesterday, I was at my usual meeting of the most powerful and conservative associations in Washington, DC. Not a lot has changed on Capitol Hill as far as "fiscal cliff" negotiations go. Both sides continue to argue about tax rates for the top two percent of Americans. I met with Senator David Vitter on Tuesday to discuss the future of Social Security. Senator Vitter has told TSC that he fully intends on reintroducing S.123, the Social Security Lock Box Bill of 2011. I will continue to update this post as new details become available.
12/11/12 It looks like the President is back to campaigning, only this time he's campaigning for public support to continue his tax and spend ways. When will the politicians on Capitol Hill finally realize that the problem isn't revenue, rather an unbridled agenda of constant spending. Please call your Congressman and Senators today and demand that SPENDING be put on the table during 'fiscal cliff" negotiations.
12/10/12 Could this be the week that both parties come to an agreement to avoid the "fiscal cliff" that is now looming just a mere 22 days from now? I wouldn't count on it. Here is a joint press release from the Obama camp and from Speaker Boehner's office after yesterdays surprise negotian session at the White house, "This afternoon, the President and Speaker Boehner met at the White House to discuss efforts to resolve the fiscal cliff. We're not reading out details of the conversation, but the lines of communication remain open." Read into that what you may, but it seems that both sides are digging in to drag out negotiations until the last possible minute. I will continue my presence on Capitol Hill and give daily updates on my activities.
12/7/12 With the House of Representatives already back in their districts, and the Senate adjourning for the weekend today, I thought I would use today's post to highlight a letter that I received from a Seniors Coalition Member. Ms. Neva Melton from Gaston, NC wrote in to say, "I have been fed up for some years the way our tax dollars are being misused and mismanaged by our Government. Too many tax paid workers are turning their heads and letting the CITIZENS down by not doing the job in the best interest of America. Please keep doing the fine work that you do to protect the interests of senior citizens." Thanks for the letter Neva, and that's exactly what we intend to do.
12/6/12 Sorry for not posting yesterday, I was on the Capitol Hill attending my usual Wednesday meeting of the most powerful and conservative groups in Washington, DC. It seems that the House of Representatives has decided to go home for the week. Hard to fathom with the "fiscal cliff" looming overhead. The Senate Joint Economic Committee is currently holding a hearing on the fiscal cliff and can be viewed by clicking here, www.cnn.com/video/cvplive/cvpstream4&hpt=hp_t1/video/cvplive/cvpstream4. TSC will continue to monitor the "lame duck" session of Congress closely and will continue to give daily updates on all progress by the government to avoid the upcoming "fiscal cliff".
12/4/12 Some positive talks are apparently going on behind closed doors regarding the upcoming "fiscal cliff". While on Capitol Hill yesterday I heard from several of my sources that even though both parties have given proposals they know will not be accepted, this is the "course" that these negotiations must take to ensure negotiations can begin and a deal can be made. For the first time in almost two years, it seems that both parties have dedicated themselves to the fact that compromise on key issues is the only solution. The next week to ten days will be critical in these negotiations, and I will continue to keep you updated as soon as details are available.
12/3/12 Republican lawmakers have scoffed at President Obama's latest proposal to avoid the looming "fiscal cliff". It seems that we are right back where we have been for the last two years in this arguement, with both parties pointing fingers. The President has stated that he wants to have a deal done by Christmas, which makes this debate all the more frightening. I will continue to monitor all debates from Capitol Hill and continue to update you as details are available.
11/30/12 President Obama has given a proposal to Republican leaders to try and avoid the looming "fiscal cliff' on January 1st, 2013. It seems that the President still hasn't grasped the real problem in this country, SPENDING. Raising taxes to pay for longer unemployment benefits, instead of trying to erase our 16 trillion dollar debt is simply no way to do business. More info to come today as details become available.
11/29/12 Sorry for not posting a message yesterday, I was attending my usual powerhouse meeting of the most conservative organizations in Washington, DC. Both sides of the aisle have begun negotiations concerning the upcoming "Fiscal Cliff". President Obama publicly stated yesterday that he hopes to have a compromise on this issue by Christmas. TSC has been adamant that Social Security and Medicare not be used as a bargaining chip to reach a "grand bargain". We will continue to monitor all action on Capitol Hill and report new details as soon as they become available.
11/27/12 Things are really starting to heat up on Capitol Hill. It seems that Republicans and Democrats are in fierce negotiations regarding the fiscal cliff, and my sources are starting the mention the phrase TSC has been warning about for months, "Grand Bargain." TSC continues to stand by our position that Medicare and Medicaid be untouched for all current rerecipients, as well as any American over the age of fifty that is in line for the benefits they have earned through a life's work. I will continue to keep you updated as more details are available.
11/26/12 Members of Congress are pouring into town today as the lame duck session on Congress will resume this afternoon. I will continue my work on Capitol Hill for the entire session and have daily updates live from Washington, DC. If you have any specific questions please feel free to email me directly at TSC@SENIOR.ORG. I will be checking emails from the Hill all week.
11/21/12 The Seniors Coalition will be closed for the remainder of the week to celebrate the Thanksgiving Holiday. Please make sure and take care over this extended weekend and have a very happy Thanksgiving!
11/20/12 With things slowed to a crawl here in the Nation's Capitol, I thought I would use today's message to remind all TSC members to travel safely during this Holiday season. Thanksgiving is traditionally the most traveled time of the year, so the roads and airports will be packed. Please use patience and caution as you travel this week.
11/19/12 Things here is Washington, DC have slowed down to a grinding halt as Congress has left town for the Thanksgiving break. Nothing of substance to report from the first week of the lame duck Congress, but don't let that fool you. I am hearing that the fireworks will fly when Congress returns to Washington on the 26th of November. I will continue my presence on Capitol Hill and report all details as they become available.
11/15/12 I wanted to highlight a message I got in the mail from a concerned Seniors Coalition member yesterday concerning the recent news of a meager 1.7% CoLA for seniors in 2013. Judith H. from Hudson, New Hampshire wrote in to say, "We can't even live on what we have now! No CoLA? What's next? Do I get pushed over a cliff in my wheelchair?" I understand your frustration Judith, which is exactly why TSC continues to fight for a guaranteed 3% CoLA.
11/14/12 I just got back from another trip to Capitol Hill for my usual meeting of the most conservative and powerful groups in Washington, DC. Party leadership elections are being voted on as we speak, as well as new member orientation, but tomorrow the gavel will be struck and the lame duck session of Congress will officially be underway. I have learned that nothing of grave importance to seniors will be discussed until after the Thanksgiving break, so I will continue to rally our allies on the Hill to make absolutely sure senior citizens aren't taken advantage of during this dangerous session of Congress.
11/13/13 Live update from Capitol Hill. I wanted to give you all a quick update on the lame duck session of Congress from the Cannon Caucus room. There is no legislative action today, but don't think there isn't plenty going on behind closed doors. My sources are telling me this is the calm before the storm. TSC will adamantly fight cuts to social security and Medicare. Stay tuned to this website for live daily updates.
11/13/12 Today's update is on my trip to Capitol Hill yesterday, as I will be most days during the lame duck session of Congress. The fiscal cliff continues to dominate talk in both chambers of Congress, with both parties keeping their plans closely guarded. I have learned from inside sources though that Social Security and Medicare will be targeted in budget talks. This is exactly what we have been warning seniors about for months. Make sure and call your Congressman and Senators today and demand that Social Security and Medicare be left out of partisan politics. 202-225-3121.
11/12/12 Congressmen and Senators are back in town today to open the "lame duck" session of Congress that TSC has been warning everyone about. With less than 7 weeks of time left before the end of the year, and two Holiday vacations, it is going to be very busy in Washington, D.C. before the start of the 113th Congress. The "fiscal cliff" is the most glaring issue that Congress must address, and we at TSC will be actively involved on Capitol Hill to make sure senior citizens aren't used as a bargaining chip during negotiations. I will be on the Hill as much as possible over the next 7 weeks and will be giving daily updates.
11/9/12 Senator Harry Reid seems to be at it again, claiming that the Democrats in the Senate will completely leave Social Security and Medicare alone during the "lame duck" session of Congress. We have heard these promises many times, only to be stabbed in the back at a later date. This is why TSC has been stressing the importance of our presence on Capitol Hill during this session. There has to be a voice for senior citizens to keep these politicians from saying one thing, and doing another.
11/8/12 As the aftermath of the election continues to calm, things are definitely heating back up in Washington with members of both chambers scheduled to arrive in town on Monday. As we have been saying for months here at TSC, this lame duck session of Congress is very dangerous due to the fact that many sitting members will be out of a job on January 21st. With the fiscal cliff looming on January 1, 2013, there will be many back door meetings and side deals made to satisfy both parties. That's why TSC will be on Capitol Hill for the entire session to make sure that senior citizens aren't used as a bargaining chip in these negotiations. Make sure and visit this site daily starting next Monday to keep up with what is going on on Capitol Hill.
11/7/12 Well another election has come and gone, and it doesn't seem like much has changed at all. It's back to the drawing board here at TSC. With the Democrats retaining control of the Senate, and the Republicans retaining control of the House, it looks like the partisan showdowns will continue. First thing is first though, to keep the pressure on both sides of the aisle during the "lame duck" session of Congress starting on Monday the 13th. I will personally be on Capitol Hill for the upcoming "lame duck" session, and will keep you informed on any breaking news as it becomes available.
11/6/12 Today is the big day! Make sure and get to the poles today and cast your vote on the future direction of the United States of America. This election could prove to be one of the most pivotal elections in modern history. Don't be left behind. Make sure and get out today and cast your vote as a proud American!
11/5/12 Tomorrow's election could very well go down as one of the closest Presidential elections in history. I want to strongly urge ALL TSC members to make sure and get to the poles tomorrow to excersize your right as an American citizen. Now is the chance to have your voice heard, and to let the politicians on Capitol Hill know what kind of job you think they have done.
11/2/12 I wanted to alert all TSC members to make sure and be on the lookout for information from The Seniors Coalition regarding the upcoming "lame duck" session of Congress. After the election on Tuesday, members of the 112th Congress, regardless of whether or not they won their perspective elections, will return to Washington to try and finish the work that they couldn't do over the last two years. As we have been warning all of our members, this is a very dangerous session of Congress for seniors and all Americans. TSC will monitor Congress on a daily basis and make sure to keep the pressure on the "lame duck" politicians to do right by it's citizens.
11/1/12 The power is back on here at TSC and we are getting back to work. Liberty Mutual, a TSC partner and member benefit, has contacted me to let you all know that their emergency response team is on the ground all up and down the east coast and working diligently to restore some normalcy to its customers. If you need to file a claim with Liberty Mutual, please call 1-800-2CLAIMS (800-225-2467).
10/31/12 We are still out of power here at TSC due to Hurricane Sandy. Please make sure and take every precaution available if you are in the northeast and have to venture out today. There is still major flooding and power lines down all across the east coast. Stay safe and look for more updates here as they are available.
10/26/12 I want to highlight a call I got this week from Barbara, in Pearl River, NY. Barbara called in to voice her frustration for the 1.7% increase in CoLA for senior citizens in 2013. Barbara stated, 'I can't believe that they would only give seniors a 1.7% raise. That's just insulting. I have had a member of my family fight in every war since WWII, and I will not stop fighting until we get this country back. Thank you so much for all that you have done for seniors and please continue to fight for us." We will Barbara.
10/25/12 Sorry for not posting yesterday, I was at my usual coalition meeting on Capitol Hill. There was lots of good information flowing yesterday, and I have learned through conversations with my contacts that the lame duck session of Congress that TSC has been warning you about will last at least two weeks, and possibly much more, depending on how much "progress" is made. I need all TSC members to get active and call your sitting Congressman and Senators and tell them to keep their hands off Social Security during this lame duck session. You can reach the Capitol Hill switchboard by calling 202-225-3121.
10/23/12 The third Presidential debate was held last night, and the jury is still out on who won. Although not nearly as contentious as last week's town hall debate, last nights debate gave both candidates a chance to give their view of foreign policy, and their vision on the future of America abroad. I want to hear your thoughts on who you thought won the debate last night. Contact me directly at TSC@SENIOR.ORG
10/22/12 Tonight is the third and final Presidential debate for President Obama and former Governor Mitt Romney. With the election just over two weeks from now, there will surely be some fireworks flying tonight. Tonight's topic will focus primarily on foreign policy, which is a big topic of contention between the two candidates. I want to hear your thoughts on who you think will win tonight's debate. Contact me directly at TSC@SENIOR.ORG.
10/18/12 Sorry for not posting yesterday, I was on Capitol Hill for my usual meeting with the most conservative and powerful groups in Washington, DC. Did you watch the second Presidential debate on Tuesday night? I want to hear your thoughts about what is being called one of the most contentious Presidential debates in decades. Which candidate do you think got his message out the most clearly? You can contact me directly at TSC@SENIOR.ORG.
10/16/12 Well today is the day that we have been warning about for some time here at The Seniors Coalition. The adjusted CoLA figures for 2013 have been announced, and the increase in benefits for seniors is a mere $21 a month. The ColA for 2013 will increase by only 1.7 percent, which is one of the lowest increases since 1975, not including the two years seniors were denied a CoLA outright in 2010 and 2011. The Seniors Coalition has been gathering petitions for a guaranteed 3.0% CoLA for some time and have over 160,000 signed petitions. Please make sure and go to the action page on this website and make sure and join TSC in the fight for a guaranteed 3.0% CoLA.
10/15/12 Thanks for all the comments last week on the Vice Presidential debate, many of you are very tuned in to this years elections. Tomorrow night will be the second Presidential debate and will focus mostly on Foreign Policy. As I stated on this site just a couple of days ago, the attack in Benghazi will surely be a major topic in tomorrow nights debate. Do you think the current administration handled the Benghazi situation poorly? TSC@SENIOR.ORG
10/12/12 Well last nights Vice Presidential debate was quite a contentious one. Congressman Ryan and Vice President Biden debated fiercely in what many are calling a dead heat. I want to hear your opinions on last nights Vice Presidential debate. Contact me directly at TSC@SENIOR.ORG.
10/11/12 I spent most of the day on Capitol Hill yesterday at my usual powerhouse meeting of the most conservative organizations in Washington, DC. After the State Department released information yesterday that contradicts the White House's account of the Benghazi raid that killed a US Ambassador, the talk in Washington has turned to foreign policy. It seems that the attack in Libya was not in retaliation to the anti-muslim movie as the current administration would have liked us to think. Make sure and tune in tonight for the Vice Presidential debates, as I am sure this topic will be one of great contention.
10/9/12 As I have been telling you for the last month or so, there is a lame duck session of Congress looming on or around November 13th. I plan on being on Capitol Hill as much as possible during this potentially dangerous session of Congress, and need as many petition signatures as I can protect seniors rights. Please make sure and have your voice heard by going to the Action Center at the top of this website and sign all of TSC's petition initiatives.
10/8/12 Now that the first Presidential debate is behind us, and the national polls showing virtually a dead heat between President Obama and former Governor Mitt Romney, I want to hear your opinions on the upcoming Vice-Presidential debate this Thursday. Do you think Congressman Ryan and Vice President Biden's debate on Thursday will have a major effect on voters? Send me your thougths at TSC@SENIOR.ORG.
10/5/12 The Senior's Coalition's 2013 Legislative surveys are pouring in from all across the country, and I wanted to take the time to thank each and every one of you that has taken the time to participate this year. Having said that, for those of you who have yet to complete the survey, I want to let you know that it is not to late to have your opinions heard. Please make sure and fill out the 2013 Legislative survey and get it back to me so I can continue to formulate TSC's 2013 legislative strategy.
10/4/12 Sorry for not posting yesterday, I was on Capitol Hill most of the day attending my usual meeting of conservative leaders in Washington, DC. After watching the first installment of Presidential debates last night, I want to know how you thought both candidates performed. Send me your thoughts on which candidate you thought got his views for the future of our country out more effectively. TSC@SENIOR.ORG
10/2/12 With the first of the Presidential debates slated in just two days, I want to hear your opinions on who you think will get his message out more effectively. National polls are now calling the Presidential race almost a dead heat. Send me your thoughts at TSC@SENIOR.ORG.
9/27/12 Sorry for not posting yesterday, I was at my usual power house meeting of Washington, DC's most conservative and influential groups. There wasn't much to learn yesterday with Congress being in recess until after the November elections. Like I have stated several times lately, TSC's concern will turn solely to the end of year, lame duck session of Congress. Be on the look out for information on this session from TSC in the very near future.
9/25/12 If you haven't been to the Action Center at the top of our website, I encourage you to do so as soon as possible. I am currently putting together petitions and signatures for each of our petition drives to take to Capitol Hill. Remember, it is critical to have as many signatures as we can, because like I have stated many times, numbers are power in Washington, DC.
9/24/12 As the Presidential election heads for the final push, both candidates were featured nationally last night on 60 Minutes. I want to hear what you thought of both candidates performances last night. Contact me directly at tsc@senior.org.
9/21/12 President Obama went on tv yesterday and explained to a laughing audience that his biggest failure as President was immigration reform. It is imperative for all TSC members to go to the action center page of this website and sign TSC's anti totalization petition. It seems very clear that if President Obama is elected to a second term, the landscape of America's immigration policies might vastly change, and not for the better.
9/20/12 I wanted to give you all one final reminder to make sure and fill out your 2013 Seniors Coalition Legislative Survey that you should have received in the mail. This survey is a critical tool for The Seniors Coalition to find out what issues are most important to you. Enclosed with your Legislative Survey you will also find a TSC Prescription Discount Card. The savings that you will receive by using this card will amaze you.
9/19/12 Just got back from Capitol Hill for my usual Wednesday meeting with the most conservative and powerful groups in Washington, D.C. I have learned that no more issues critical to seniors will be either debated, or voted on this week leading up to the Congressional recess before November's election. There is one order of business left on the Senate side which is to vote on the Continuing Resolution, which the House has already passed, to stave off another government shutdown at the end of the year. My inside sources tell me that there will be posturing by both sides, but that neither has any interest in a government shut down. Look for a vote on Friday at the earliest and Sunday at the latest. After the Senate has voted on the CR, they will officially adjourn until, or around, November 13th.
9/18/12 With the House passing the continuing resolution to avoid a possible late year government shutdown, TSC is now focusing solely on the lame duck session of Congress scheduled after this years November elections. With the House scheduled to adjourn this week and the Senate as well, there is really no time left before the election to get any work done. That is what is concerning us here at The Seniors Coalition. Lame duck sessions can be very dangerous, especially considering that a huge number of members that are voting on critical issues, could possibly have already lost their jobs. I will personally stay on top of this issue and keep you posted on any new news I may hear between now and November.
9/14/12 Just wanted to give you all a heads up to be on the lookout for your 2013 Legislative Survey. You should be receiving your survey within the next few days and it is critical that you fill out your survey and get it back to me as soon as possible. This survey is a critical part of our goals for the upcoming 2013 legislative year.
9/13/12 As I do every Wednesday, I spent most of my day on Capitol Hill yesterday, including my usual meeting with the most powerful and conservative organizations in Washington, D.C. I have learned that what little time thats left on this years legislative schedule will be occupied by the continuing resolution to avoid a government shutdown prior to the lame duck session after the November elections. With taxmaggedon on the horizon, this debate will be critical to this years elections. TSC fully supports the extension of ALL of former President Bush's tax cuts.
9/11/12 Congress is officially back in session for 7 more days of business before another recess in October leading up to the November elections. I spent the day on Friday on Capitol Hill visiting key offices of House members on the Ways and Means Committee, which oversees Medicare and Social Security. We are trying to make a big push before the "lame duck" session of Congress starts to have a vote on the guaranteed 3% CoLA raise. I will keep you posted on our progress as details are available.
9/6/12 Sorry for not posting yesterday, I was on Capitol Hill at my usual Wednesday meeting with the most powerful and conservative groups in Washington, DC. I have learned that there are only 8 official days of business left for Congress before another October recess leading up to the election. It seems obvious by the work load left on the docket for this year that there most certainly will be a lame duck session of Congress after the election. TSC will continue to monitor this situation closely.
9/4/12 Hope you all had a wonderful Labor Day weekend. This week will be the last week of the August recess as the Democratic Convention is under way in Charlotte. Both sides of the aisle only have about a week or so worth of working days before another break before the November elections. I want to hear what you think is the most important issue to be tackled before this years elections. Contact me directly at TSC@SENIOR.ORG.
8/31/12 The Republican National Convention came to an end last night with Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney closing the event with a passionate speech evoking memories of the late Ronald Reagan. I want to hear from TSC members today about how you thought the convention went and what were the highlights. Contact me directly at TSC@SENIOR.ORG.
8/30/12 As you can see from the lead story on our website today, there is more bad news coming out of the Social Security Administration. Just more troubling news from an Administration that just can't seem to get it right. Whether letting the Social Security Trust Fund be repeatedly raided by Congress, or now possibly paying benefits to over a million deceased Americans, they just never seem to get the job done right. Contact your elected officials today and demand accountability for the erroneous ways the Social Security Administration does it's business. 202-224-3121.
8/29/12 With the Republican National Convention finally getting started in Tampa, FL, I want to know what you thought about the opening nights speakers. How did you think Ann Romney did? Did you watch Governor Christie's speech? Send me your thoughts at TSC@SENIOR.ORG.
8/28/12 Be on the lookout in your mail over the next week to ten days for your Seniors Coalition Prescription Discount Cards. You will not believe the savings that you will receive from this program. I have highlighted numerous savings over the last year and we are expanding this program currently. The TSC Prescription cards are pre-activated and never expire. If you do not receive one of these cards in the next two weeks, contact me directly at TSC@SENIOR.ORG to get yours.
8/24/12 Please remember to visit the action center at the top of this website to have your voice heard in Washington, DC. We are still collecting petition signatures for Dr. Bridges million petition challenge. You can voice your opposition to the Death Tax, Totalization and your adamant demand to Congress to guarantee all senior citizens at least a 3% CoLA every year.
8/23/12 Sorry for no post yesterday, I was at my usual meeting on Capitol Hill with the most conservative and powerful organizations in Washington, DC. Next week will be very interesting to watch with the Republican Convention being held in Tampa, FL. I want to hear your thoughts about what you think should be the main focus at this years convention. Send me your thoughts at TSC@SENIOR.ORG
8/21/12 With the dog days of August still upon us here in Washington, DC, I wanted to highlight a couple of incredible savings by Seniors Coalition members around the country using TSC's Prescription Discount Cards. A TSC member in Superior, WI saved a whopping 73.6% ($120.65) on a recent prescription in July and another member saved an incredible $220.12 or a 93.3% savings on a prescription in Milford, MI. With these savings there really is no excuse not to get in touch with me today to receive your card. TSC@SENIOR.ORG.
8/20/12 I have some new information today about The Seniors Coalition's monthly Newsletter "The Senior Class.". Starting in September we will be doubling the content and size of our Newsletter to make sure and cover all of the issues that are important to seniors. If you are not currently receiving "The Senior Class" and would like to get a monthly copy, please contact me directly at TSC@SENIOR.ORG.
8/16/12 Sorry for not posting yesterday, I was on Capitol Hill for my usual Wednesday meeting with the most powerful and conservative groups in Washington, DC. The Romney campaign seems thrilled with it's decision of Rep. Paul Ryan as their VP running mate. I haven't heard from enough of you though on this news. I want to hear what you, as seniors, feel about Mitt Romney's pick. Contact me today at TSC@SENIOR.ORG
8/14/12 Please make sure and read the lead story on this website today explaining TSC's reaction to the choice of Rep. Paul Ryan as Mitt Romney's running mate for the 2012 Presidential Election. You are going to hear lots of things about Rep. Ryan in the next 90 days from both sides of the isle, including what democrats will try and portray Ryan as an enemy to seniors. Now while Rep. Ryan is in favor of a overhaul to the way Social Security and Medicare are currently operating, which I think we can all agree is broken, make sure and note that his plan excludes all people over the age of 55. So for current Social Security and Medicare recipients, there would be no change in your benefits.
8/13/15 In case you missed the news over the weekend, presidential hopeful Mitt Romney has chosen his running mate for this years election, Rep. Paul Ryan. The campaign for the White House in November will surely heat up from here. I want to know what you think about this choice. Email me your thoughts at TSC@SENIOR.ORG.
8/10/12 As the dog days of August continue to trod along here in Washington DC, I have learned that Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney has narrowed his Vice President list down to two, possibly three choices, with a decision to be made shortly after the conclusion of this years Summer Olympics. I want to hear from TSC members as to who you think would be the best candidate to run with Mitt Romney. Send me your thoughts at TSC@SENIOR.ORG.
8/9/12 Sorry for not posting yesterday, I spent most of the day on Capitol Hill attending my usual Wednesday meeting with the most powerful and conservative groups in Washington, DC. Things have slowed down a bit here in the DC due to the August recess. I have received several emails regarding what issues are most important to you going into next years legislative calander, but I want to hear from more. Send me your most important senior issues at TSC@SENIOR.ORG.
8/7/12 I want to highlight a call I received from a former member of the Seniors Coalition yesterday. Roberta from TN called in to say that she was unaware that her membership had lapsed until she received our Liberty Mutual Benefits mailer earlier in the month. After speaking with the people at Liberty, Roberta was so thrilled with the savings that she could receive by being a member of the Seniors Coalition that she immediately picked up her phone and renewed her membership for her and her husband. Make sure and visit our Membership Benefits page at the top of this website to take advantage of all TSC has to offer it's members.
8/6/12 I don't usually like to retread articles on this blog, but I came across this article this morning which details exactly what to expect come January 1, 2013, if Congress doesn't act. Taxmaggedon, or as some people have been calling it, the fiscal cliff, is fast approaching and without immediate action, all walks of life in America will be affected. Read this article and get in touch with your elected officials and demand that the bush era tax cuts are extended to avoid another recession in this country. Money.cnn.com/2012/08/06/news/economy/fiscal-cliff/index.htm?hpt=hp_t3
8/3/12 The August recess in Congress has officially begun today. I want to hear the opinions of our members this month on what you think is the most critical issue for seniors heading into November's election, as well as the upcoming 113th Congress. Please send me your thoughts and opinions at TSC@SENIOR.ORG.
8/2/12 Sorry for not posting yesterday, I spent most of the day on Capitol Hill. While at my usual power meeting with the most conservative groups in DC yesterday I learned that there will be no vote this year to repeal the hated Death Tax. Instead there will be negotiations by both sides of the isle to try and meet somewhere in the middle from the current numbers and the crippling numbers come January 1st, 2013. TSC will continue to fight for a FULL repeal of this law but will wait and see what happens in November to see what is ahead of us. I will continue my lobbying efforts on Capitol Hill until this law is finally repealed.
7/31/12 You should have all received TSC's latest petition drive, the guaranteed 3% CoLA petition. Please make sure and sign that and get it back to me as soon as possible. It is critical that I have as many signed petitions as possible to take down to Capitol Hill. Power comes in numbers in Washington DC, so please make sure and get those back to TSC headquarters in a timely manner.
7/30/12 It looks like the showdown between House Republicans and Democrats over Taxmaggedon, the expiration of all the Bush era tax cuts, will come to a head this week as House Republicans plan to vote to extend them all. Make sure and call your elected officials today at 202-224-3121 and demand that they vote to extend all of Bush's tax cuts to avoid another recession in our economy.
7/27/12 I just got back from an event featuring Senator John Thune of South Dakota. Senator Thune is the original sponsor of S2242, the death tax legislation in the Senate. Senator Thune and his staff seem confident that there will in fact be a vote on S2242 at some point in this legislative year. With Taxmaggedon looming on January 1, the date where all of former President Bush's tax cuts expire, the death tax may well be included in a much broader tax bill. I will keep you posted on all details regarding the death tax as they become available.
7/26/12 Sorry for not posting yesterday, I was on Capitol Hill for most of the day attending my usual Wednesday meeting with the most conservative and powerful groups in Washington DC. Things are getting pretty hectic here in Washington as both chambers are scrambling to get as much work done as possible before they leave for August recess. TSC is still concentrating on the full and total repeal of the Death Tax and have been told that there is a good possibility that there will be a vote at some point this year, whether its in September before the election, or in the lame duck session after the election. I will keep you all posted and give any relevant news as soon as it is available.
7/24/12 Things are kind of slow here on Capitol Hill so I wanted to take this opportunity to remind everyone about all TSC has to offer with our Member Benefits. You can save on prescription drugs with TSC's Prescription Discount Cards, or receive the same banking privileges as Members of Congress by joining the Congressional Federal Credit Union. Please make sure and visit our Member Benefits page at the top of this website to see what else TSC has to offer it's members.
7/20/12 As I stated yesterday, please be on the lookout in the next couple of weeks for TSC's new petition initiative, CoLA reform. I have learned that Congress isn't going to be in session much until after the November elections. It will be critical for us to have all TSC members on board so that we may try and get something accomplished during the "lame duck" session after the general elections. This could be the perfect opportunity to get the politicians in Washington to finally move on this issue.
7/19/12 As you can see from the lead story on the website today, we here at TSC have launched another petition drive aimed at what I hear daily from TSC members is one of the most important issues for seniors today, CoLA reform. Be on the look out for your petitions in early August and make sure and sign them and get them back to me as soon as possible. This will be an invaluable tool for me to take down to Capitol Hill as I continue to lobby on your behalf for CoLA reform. You can also contact your elected officials anytime at 202-224-3121.
7/18/12 Just got back from Capitol Hill from my normal Wednesday meeting with the most conservative and powerful groups in Washington DC. Congressman Kevin Brady's Death Tax bill HR.1259 now has 217 cosponsors and is only one cosponsor short of being able to move out of committee and to the House floor for a vote. I urge all Seniors Coalition members to contact Congressman Eric Cantor's office and demand that this bill be brought up for a vote as soon as it has reached 218 cosponsors. You can reach Congressman Cantor's office by calling the Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121.
7/17/12 One final reminder for everyone to make sure and get in your early 2013 membership renewals. In this election year it is critical that we have as much support as we can. There is no better time to lobby on Capitol Hill than an election year, when worried politicians are willing to listen much more intently than if it was not an election year. So make sure and get your renewals in today!
7/16/12 Make sure and visit the Action Center at the top of the Home page and join in on Dr. Bridges million petition challenge. Our goal is to gather at least one million signatures on all of our petition drives. Make your voice in Washington heard today.
7/13/12 With all that has been going on here in Washington regarding ObamaCare, I have neglected to mention our Member Benefits page for a while. Please make sure and visit our Member Benefits page and enjoy all the benefits of being a Member of The Seniors Coalition. If you have any questions pertaining to any of our benefit programs, please contact me at TSC@SENIOR.ORG.
7/12/12 The House of Representatives voted yesterday for a full repeal of ObamaCare, sending the country's most controversial law in decades to the Senate for a repeal vote sometime later this month. The President has warned both chambers that he will veto any repeal legislation that crosses to his desk. Now is the prefect time to call your Senators and demand that they vote for a total repeal of this unlawful law. 202-224-3121
7/11/12 Just got back from Capitol Hill for my usual Wednesday meeting with some of the most powerful and conservative organizations in DC. Today's meeting was pretty much dominated by the Supreme Court's decision to uphold ObamaCare. The House of Representatives will be voting at some point today on complete repeal and it is widely thought to pass convincingly, with members on both sides of the isle coming together. I will update with relevant information as it becomes available.
7/10/12 I wanted to give a second reminder for all of our new members in 2012, you should have already received in the mail your 2013 early membership renewal forms. Make sure and get these back in the mail as soon as possible to lock up your full membership for 2013. Like I said the other day, it is critical for TSC that you all sign up as early as possible to give me as much clout as I can on Capitol Hill. Numbers equal power, especially here in Washington DC.
7/9/12 After a long week without power, things are back to normal here at The Seniors Coalition. This week could be very interesting on Capitol Hill. With the Supreme Court's ruling on Obamacare still fresh on everyone's mind, it's now up to the House of Representatives to make the first move. A vote has been tentatively planned for sometime this week on a full repeal of the law. I will give you all full details on the date of the vote as soon as they are available.
7/6/12 We have finally had power restored here at TSC. The storms from last weekend continue to plague the Washington DC/Metro area. I want to touch on a couple of subjects this morning, please see the lead story on the main page of our website today announcing TSC's 2013 early membership renewal drive. It is critical in this election year that we have all the ammo we need to effectively lobby on Capitol Hill, and that means we need everyone to renew early. Secondly, there is still plenty of scrambling going on here in Washington in regards to the Supreme Courts decision on ObamaCare. It appears there is a vote for total repeal scheduled for the House floor next week. I will keep you posted as more details are available. Hope you all had a wonderful Fourth of July Holiday.
7/3/12 Unfortunately, the power at TSC's offices is still out due to last weekend's storms that ravaged the Washington, D.C. area. So our offices are closed. Hopefully, we'll be back up and running soon, however!
6/29/12 As the fallout continues from yesterdays Supreme Court ruling on ObamaCare, things here in Washington have really start to heat up. And by heat up, I am not referring to the over 100 degree temperature here today. Both sides of the isle have started to position themselves for the upcoming battle when the House votes for a total repeal of this law in about two weeks. TSC will adamantly lobby Congress for nothing short of a total repeal of ObamaCare, and as I stated yesterday, you can help as well. Please make sure and contact all of your elected officials and demand that ObamaCare be repealed immediately. 202-224-3121
6/28/12 Update from the Supreme Court. I just got back from the Supreme Court where demonstrators were fuming over the High Courts decision to uphold ObamaCare. If you think this decision will have little effect on you, you should reconsider. It is a fact that Medicare will be cut by $500 billion dollars over the next decade. Furthermore, the IPAB now has the authority to ration health care how they see fit. I urge you all to call your Congressman and demand he or she vote for a total repeal on July 10th when the House of Representatives is reportedly going to vote on this measure. Please call your Senators as well and urge them to vote for any repeal bill as soon as it hits the Senate floor. 202-224-3121. As I stated earlier this morning, TSC will continue to lobby Congress for a total repeal of this law.
6/28/12 Well the news is out and it is the worst possible scenario. The Supreme Court has just ruled on ObamaCare and ruled almost the entire law to be Constitutional. TSC will ADAMANTLY fight for the ENTIRE repeal of this law. This law not only cripples the way seniors and Americans all over the country get their health care, but also gives the government the power to force American citizens into buying whatever product or service they deem necessary. This truly is a scary ruling for all Americans. TSC will not stop fighting until we get the FULL REPEAL of ObamaCare.
6/27/12 Sorry for the late post today, as I do every Wednesday I was at a meeting on Capitol Hill with some of the most powerful and conservative groups in Washington. It seems that everyone on both sides of the isle are eagerly anticipating tomorrows Supreme Court ruling on the legality of ObamaCare. As you can read from the lead story on this website, we have been planning for months for tomorrow's decision. Tomorrow is really a ground breaking decision by the Supreme Court and will lay the groundwork for not only America's health care system, but how our government operates in the future as well. I will be updating this post the instant any new news is available.
6/26/12 As I mentioned yesterday, I attended a senior citizen rally this morning opposing ObamaCare. Washington DC is literally on the edge of it's seat awaiting Thursdays monumental Supreme Court decision. It seems that opinions are all over the map here in the Nations Capitol. I want to hear your opinion on this issue? Email me today at TSC@SENIOR.ORG
6/25/12 The Supreme Court this morning has announced that all remaining rulings for the calendar year will be announced on Thursday. The buzz on Capitol Hill has been for weeks that today would have been the day for the ObamaCare decision. So it's now become a wait and see game for everyone here in Washington. I will be attending a seniors citizens rally tomorrow in favor of a total repeal of the President's Health Care initiative. I will update as soon as breaking news is available.
6/22/12 Ok, no news yesterday from the Supreme Court regarding ObamaCare. That puts the bulls eye square on Monday for the ultimate decision. I will be following this very closely with my sources on Capitol Hill and immediately post the results as soon as they are available. TSC will continue to actively lobby for the full repeal of ObamaCare if it isn't entirely struck down by the Supreme Court.
6/21/12 Sorry for not posting a message yesterday, I was on the hill meeting with some of the most conservative and powerful groups in DC. The time is officially here and there is a buzz on Capitol Hill, the Supreme Court's decision on the legality of Obama's Health care law is due out any day now. As I have been saying for a couple of months, the decision is rumoured to be announced on Monday, June 25. I have also heard from several of my sources that this decision could come as early as today. Stay tuned to this website for breaking news as it is available.
6/19/12 Another notice for all of our new 2012 members, and there are a lot of you. Please make sure and visit the Action Page at the top of this website and make your voice heard today. Dr. Joseph Bridges announced his goal of getting one million signatures for each of our petition drives and we have come a long way towards that goal in three short months.
6/18/12 It looks like more election year politics for President Obama. On Friday, the President announced his plans to stop deporting certain "young" illegal aliens and start offering work permits to the very same illegal aliens. TSC has said for years that this will only further weaken our already troubled Social Security System and hurt the economy as well. Do you think President Obama should be using the country's immigration laws to further his own political career? TSC@SENIOR.ORG
6/15/12 Another reminder for all our new members to check our membership benefits page. From the Congressional Federal Credit Union, where you can get all the banking advantages as Congressmen and Senators, to TSC's Prescription Discount Program, we have lots to offer. You can also contact me at tsc@senior.org if you have any questions about any of our programs.
6/14/12 More news from Capitol Hill, as I was on the Hill last week visting several offices, including Republican Majority Leader Eric Cantor's office, as well as Congressman Kevin Brady, I have learned that there may be a "wait and see" approach to the Death Tax. It seems the strategy may be to hold fast and wait until after the election to see what happens to avoid compromise on this issue. TSC stands behind our position of a total repeal of the Death Tax, and I will continue my work on Capitol Hill until we get a vote on the floor of Congress.
6/13/12 Sorry for the late post today, as I do every Wednesday I was on Capitol Hill attending a high level meeting with the most powerful conservative groups in Washington DC. I also had a meeting with a member of Senator David Vitter's staff today to strategize on a letter that TSC will be sending to all members of the US Senate in support of Vitter's Lock Box Legislation, S123.
6/12/12 Quick follow up from yesterday, it appears that Commerce Secretary John Bryson suffered a seizure over the weekend that is being attributed to his car accidents. Authorities are still investigating the case. I will continue to give details as they are available. I spent Friday on Capitol Hill and stopped by key Congressional offices to state TSC's support for the full and total repeal of the Death Tax. Congressman Kevin Brady's bill is getting very close to having the cosponsors needed to get that bill to the House floor for a vote. Make sure your Congressman is cosponsoring HR 1259, and if he isn't, call today to urge them to support this critical bill. 202-224-3121.
6/11/12 Breaking News over the weekend, "Obama Official Accused of Felony." It looks like over the weekend US Commerce Secretary John Bryson was arrested on the charge of Felony hit and run in California. Details are still unclear as to exactly what happened, but this is certainly not good news for the Obama camp in an election year. Stay tuned to this website for more details as they become available.
6/8/12 As I mentioned last week, Taxmeggedon is the hot topic on Capitol Hill. Yesterday, Federal Reserve Board Chairman Ben Bernanke went in front of Congress to express his views on the upcoming financial "cliff". Bernanke urged Congress to do all they can over the remainder of the fiscal year to ensure that Taxmaggedon doesn't further deter the US Economy. TSC agrees strongly with Bernanke, and will continue to fight against crippling taxes like the Death Tax.
6/7/12 Sorry for not getting up a post yesterday, as I do every Wednesday I was on Capitol Hill meeting with some of the most conservative and influential groups in DC. The pressure is starting to mount and strategies are being planned on how to deal with the Supreme Court's decision on ObamaCare. I have learned that this decision is almost certainly going to be revealed on June 24th or 25th. TSC is for the full repeal of this law and are pretty confident that the Supreme Court will agree. Stay tuned right her for updates as they are available.
6/5/12 For all of our new TSC members, make sure and visit the Member Benefits page at the top of our website. Don't be left out on the deals you can get from Insurance and Hotel discounts to TSC's Prescription Discount Club and The Congressioanal Federal Credit Union. I will be happy to help answer any questions that you may have. Contact me directly at tsc@senior.org.
6/4/12 As you can see by the lead story on this website, there are new projections for the Social Security Trust Fund. It seems like every time there are new projections, the years seem to get closer and closer to it's demise. Go to our Action Center today and sign your lock box petition. Also, Call your Senator's office today and URGE them to cosponsor Senator David Vitter's Lock Box Legislation.
6/1/12 I wanted to highlight a letter that I got from a TSC member yesterday, Eleanor from Salem, MA wrote in on the topic of TSC's opposition to Totalization, and our continued fight against this possible legislation. Eleanor wrote in and said, "Don't give up the fight. I just wanted to tell you I really appreciate all your efforts. You are helping a lot of people and I thank you for that. Please make sure that Social Security is not used to support illegal aliens in this country." We will indeed keep up the fight Eleanor. Please make sure and go to the Action Center page on this website and make sure and have your voice heard by signing TSC's Totalization Petition.
5/31/12 As you can clearly see from the lead story on this website, it seems politics could be getting in the way of a real chance to repeal one of the most hated laws in America, The Death Tax. It seems that some members in the leadership roles don't want to look like they are favoring the rich in an election year. We at TSC would take the exact opposite side on that argument and stress the fact that if this law isn't repealed by January 1, 2013, it will effect not only the rich, but anyone with over a million dollars of worth. Now 20 years ago that may have been considered rich, but in today's economy it simply isn't what it used to be. That's why TSC will continue our battle to get this law repealed once and for all. As always, pick up the phone and URGE your members of Congress to cosponsor both the House and Senate version to repeal the Death Tax. 202-224-3121
5/25/12 We will be closed here at TSC on Monday for the Memorial Day Weekend. It will be back to work on Tuesday when Congress gets back in session. Have a wonderful Holiday weekend and look for updates on next weeks activities right here on Tuesday.
5/24/12 Momentum is continuing to mount for Congressman Kevin Brady's H.R. 1259, the Death Tax Repeal Permanently Act of 2011. Congressman Brady is now only 8 cosponsors short of getting this bill out of Committee and on to the House floor for a vote. Please do all you can to join me in this battle. Make sure and call your Congressman today and urge him to immediately cosponsor this important legislation before it becomes yet another Taxmeggedon casualty that we all have to deal with come January 1, 2013. 202-224-3121
5/23/12 As I do every Wednesday, I spent the morning with some of the most conservative and powerful groups in Washington DC. The topic of "Taxmaggedon" keeps coming up all around Capitol Hill. As I mentioned yesterday there is already a war brewing on the Debt Ceiling. This should be one of the most interesting election years in recent memory. And the good news is that if we at TSC keep applying pressure to the powers that be on Capitol Hill, there is a good chance of some actual "action" on some of the most outdated laws in American history, like the Death Tax.
5/22/12 Here we go again, last week House Speaker John Boehner met with President Obama to discuss America's debt ceiling. It looks like things are going to get nasty again. Since the first debt ceiling was established in 1917, at 11.5 billion dollars, the US Congress has raised the debt ceiling 76 times. Our current debt ceiling is capped at 15.670 trillion, TRILLION. Call your Congressman and Senators TODAY and demand that spending finally gets controlled and that yet another extension of the debt ceiling to fund "pet projects" is unacceptable. 202-224-3121
5/21/12 Summer time is right around the corner, so I wanted to remind all Seniors Coalition members to make sure and take advantage of TSC's Wyndham Hotel benefits. You can save an additional ten percent off of their already low "best available rate" by being a member of The Seniors Coalition. Just click on the Member Benefits header at the top of this website.
5/18/12 As I mentioned yesterday, "Taxmageddon" is a term that is being thrown around a lot here in Washington DC. I want to let you all now just a few of the tax hikes, other than the Death Tax, that will be an issue come January 1, 2013. Income tax rates will shoot up, the child tax credit is cut in half, the marriage penalty roars back, the capital gains tax rate goes up, dividend tax rates soar. These are just a handful of tax hikes that will criple Americans of every age group. Call your Congressman and Senators TODAY, and urge them to fight against these tax hikes. 202-224-3121.
5/17/12 Sorry for no post yesterday, I was on Capitol Hill most of the day meeting with some of the most conservative groups in Washington DC. I want to introduce to you a term that is being used a lot in DC right now, and will be a nationwide term in the next 7 months. The term is "Taxmageddon" and it refers to an unprecedented tidal wave of tax hikes that begin on January 1, 2013. Now I have been telling you all that the death tax will revert back to it's highest levels of taxation in US history on January 1, 2013, but you will be floored to hear of all the other tax hikes that also go into effect on that date. I will be using this post over the next couple of weeks to highlight all of the January 1, 2013 hikes. Call your Congressman and Senators today and urge them to support any and all legislation to avoid "Taxmageddon." 202-224-3121.
5/15/12 We at TSC are thinking about another Prescription Discount Card mailing. I want to hear your stories of how much money you have saved using TSC's prescription program. Send me your experiences and I want to highlight a couple of members stories on this website. Send your savings to me via email at TSC@SENIOR.ORG.
5/14/12 We are gearing up for a busy week here at The Seniors Coalition. Please make sure and contact your elected officials, if you have not done so already, and urge them to cosponsor HR 1259, The Death Tax Repeal Permanency Act in the House and S. 2242 (identical wording as HR 1259) in the Senate. As I have been stressing the past couple of months, the time is now to finally repeal this outdated and invasive tax.
5/10/12 I wanted to highlight a call that I received yesterday from Nate in Chicago, Il. "I wanted to call and thank you so much for aligning us with a US Senator to finally get some Lock Box Legislation introduced. I rely on Social Security for my every day needs and don't know where I would be without it. Please make sure and do all you can to save Social Security for not only me, but future generations as well." Thanks for the call Nate, and we will continue to fight for the ultimate passage of Lock Box Legislation.
5/9/12 Another reminder to make sure and go to the TSC action page and make sure your voice is heard by signing all of TSC's petition drives. For the new members, Dr. Joseph Bridges has issued a challenge to all TSC members to get a million signatures for each of our critical initiatives. The response has been great so far, so make sure and join in on this historic push to get the politicians on Capitol Hill to finally start paying attention to America's seniors!
5/8/12 There is a new video posted on the front page of this website. This video was shot on day three of the Supreme Court's hearings on the legality of President Obama's health care law. The video features TSC's Board of Directors discussing aspects of the controversial law. As the story states, it appears the Supreme Court will release their decision at the end of June.
5/7/12 Make sure and check out our Member Benefits page. I know there are a lot of new members to the Seniors Coalition because of our agressive 2012 membership drive. Check out all that TSC has to offer. Contact me directly if you have any questions or need assistance with any of our plans at TSC@SENIOR.ORG.
5/4/12 I want to put a date on your calendar to make sure and watch for. From what I learned this week on Capitol Hill, it looks like the Supreme Court's ruling on Obamacare is going to be released either June 24th, or June 25th. This monumental court ruling could drastically change the way our Federal Government operates. Pay close attention to this website for further updates as they are available.
5/2/12 Sorry for the late post today, as I do every Wednesday, I was on Capitol Hill with some of the most conservative groups in Washington, D.C. I also spent some time on Capitol Hill yesterday, visiting the office of Congressman Darrell Issa, as well as the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. There is still lots to come out of the GSA story, and TSC will be there to provide you with the details as they are available.
5/1/12 Thought this was important enough to add a second message of the day. House Republican freshman class president Rep. Austin Scott has sent a letter to Speaker Boehner calling for a vote and all out repeal of the "Estate Tax." This is great news considering the mounting support that Congressman Brady's bill H.R. 1259 (206 co-sponsors), and Senator Thune's bill S.2242 (36 co-sponsors) have been getting in the last month. Call your Senators and Congressman and demand that they co-sponsor each respective bill if they haven't already. TSC has been calling for the repeal of the "Death Tax" for years.
5/1/12 I came across some new legislation that I wanted to share with you all, and encourage you to support. H.R. 2569 is the "Free File Program Act of 2011." Basically this bill encourages the free market approach towards filing your taxes every year. H.R. 2569 encourages the IRS to provide taxpayers with a high qaulity service by using the existing provate sector's expertise when filing your taxes every year. I encourage you all to contact your Congressman and Senators today and urge them to co-sponsor this bill.
4/30/12 The Seniors Coalition's 2012 Legislative Survey results have been posted on our website. Click on the headline story to get all the results from this years survey, as well as what action TSC will be taking with these results. Thanks to all that participated in this years survey!
4/27/12 Make sure and visit TSC's member benefits page to take adavantage of all we have to offer. Many of you have been contacting me regarding the Congressional Federal Credit Union. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to share the exact same banking perks as members of Congress. Also, if you have not received your TSC Prescription Discount Card yet contact me via email and I will get your card in the mail today. TSC@SENIOR.ORG
4/26/12 I wanted to highlight a very powerful and enlightening video that was released on Earth Day and has been viewed on YouTube over a million times since Sunday. This video was released by Free Market America and is titled, "If I wanted America To Fail." I want you all to make sure and view this video at www.freemarketamerica.org, and I want to hear your opinions TODAY. TSC@SENIOR.ORG
4/25/12 Sorry for the late post, I was at my usual Wednesday meeting on Capitol Hill with some of the most conservative groups in Washington DC. It looks like we finally have a candidate for the Republican party to square of with President Obama in November. I want to hear your thoughts on this years Presidential election at TSC@SENIOR.ORG.
4/24/12 As I mentioned on Friday, The Social Security Board of Trustees yesterday released it's annual report on the financial health of the Social Security Trust Funds. Projections are as TSC had feared, with new reports suggesting that the Trust Funds will be exhausted in 2033, three years earlier than projections last year suggested. This news just further proves the point that we at TSC have been making for the better part of 20 years, Lock Box Legislation must be passed by Congress to ensure the integrity of this program. Here is the official release from the Social Security Administration. Http://www.ssa.gov/pressoffice/pr/trustee12-pr.html
4/23/12 Please make sure and visit the TSC Action Center at the top of this website. Dr. Bridges has issued a challenge to all TSC members to garner a million signatures a piece for all our petition drives. Don't be left out of this historical push. Have your voice heard on Capitol Hill.
4/20/12 I wanted to give you all a quick heads up on some important information that will be revealed on Monday of next week. The trustees for Medicare and Social Security will announce on Monday their updated projections for the future of both programs. I don't usually like to retread articles with this blog but this article has some very important information on the future solvency of both programs. Please take the time to read this article and as always feel free to contact me with your thoughts at TSC@SENIOR.ORG. http://money.cnn.com/2012/04/20/news/social_security_medicare/index.htm?source=cnn_bin
4/19/12 You should have received your Senator Vitter Lock Box Petition in the mail this week. These petitions are critical in TSC's effort to garner cosponsors for Senator Vitter's Lock Box Bill S.123. Make sure and sign your petitions as soon as possible and return them so we can use them as leverage to garner as much support on Capitol Hill as we can to once and for all protect the Social Security Trust Fund from further raids by Congress.
4/18/12 Quick update on the GSA scandal. Officials from the GSA and interim administrator Dan Tangherlini faced the US Senate today with both sides of the isle blasting GSA officials. Several Senators directed Tangherlini to "clean house" immediately. I spent the morning on Capitol Hill with some of the most conservative groups in Washington and the GSA scandal was at the top of conversation. TSC is monitoring this situation closely to see exactly what else may come from this scandal. Stay tuned for further updates.
4/17/12 Some pretty incredible testimony has surfaced from Congressman Issa's hearing on GSA's lavish 2010 Las Vegas Conference. Jeff Neely, the GSA official in charge of putting together this outrageous conference in 2010 yesterday pleaded the fifth amendment five separate times. Unfortunately for Mr. Neely, his email records cannot be hidden by the fifth Amendment. Congressman Elijah Cummings of Maryland testified yesterday that Mr. Neely was quoted in an email to friends before the conference stating, and I quote this verbatim, "We'll get you guys a room near us, and we'll pick up the room tab. Could be a blast." He continued with, "I know I'm bad, but as Deb and I often say, why not enjoy it while we have it and while we can. Ain't gonna last forever." No sir, you cannot defraud the Federal Government forever. TSC is calling for punishment to the fullest extent of the law for all parties involved.
4/16/12 Even more should come out today about the fraud at the General Services Administration as Congressman Issa gavels a hearing to order on the GSA's lavish spending. TSC is demanding that every single government agency's conference and worker bonus budgets be audited, and anyone defrauding the government like the GSA workers should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law! Dr. Bridges' letters to President Obama and Representative Issa are now posted in an article on our home page.
4/13/12 Dr. Bridges is sending a very strongly worded letter to the President about the GSA scandal and how seniors were defrauded by these bureaucrats run amok. The Social Security CoLAs that you didn't get in recent years paid for these "civil servants'" lavish spending! More details soon on what we are doing to hold the government to account.
4/12/12 Be on the lookout for an urgent letter from U.S. Senator David Vitter concerning his Social Security Lock Box bill. You should be receiving it in the mail very soon. TSC is working closely with Senator Vitter to protect Social Security from raids by Congress. When you get your letter, be sure to sign and return your petition. We have to protect Social Security!
4/11/12 Sorry for the late post today. I spent most of the day on Capitol Hill as I do every Wednesday. If you haven't already received your 2012 Legislative Survey from us, please contact me immediately at TSC@SENIOR.ORG to get yours in the mail. If you have already received and filled out our Legislative Survey, look for the results to be posted here on our website on April 30th.
4/10/12 There are a lot of new pictures from TSC's annual Board of Directors meeting posted at the bottom right of our home page. Make sure and click on the TSC in Pictures section of this website to see the Board in action. You can see first hand who we visited and what we did on Capitol Hill to promote seniors issues. As always, I welcome your comments at TSC@SENIOR.COM.

4/5/21 We will be closed here at The Seniors Coalition tomorrow in observance of Good Friday, so the next post will be on Monday. As I do before every weekend, I want to urge you all to get outside on this beautiful spring weekend for some fresh air and exercise. I also want to remind all TSC members who have yet to contact me for TSC's Prescription Discount Card to do so as soon as possible, you'll truly be amazed by the savings. Have a wonderful Easter weekend!
4/4/12 Sorry for the late post today, I was at my usual Wednesday meeting with the some of the most conservative groups in Washington. There is still many conflicting opinions on the fate of ObamaCare. Send me your thoughts on how you believe last weeks Supreme Court hearing went. You can contact me anytime at TSC@SENIOR.ORG.
4/3/12 There are some pictures posted from our Board of Directors visit at the bottom of the home page. We really got a lot accomplished while the Board was in town. Make sure and click on the link below to see some of our activities last week.
4/2/12 I hope you all had a great weekend. Back to the grindstone here at TSC. The Board of Directors meeting is over and it's time to get working on all the major issues that were brought up at this years meeting. Please make sure and go to the TSC Action page at the top of this website and make sure and sign all our petitions. Dr. Bridges again stated his goal of trying to get one million signatures for each of our major petition drives. Make sure and have your voice heard today!
3/30/12 As I do every Friday, please make sure and get outside this weekend for some fresh air and excercise. We had a very busy week here at The Seniors Coalition. We had great success on Capitol Hill on Wednesday and want to carry that momentum into the year to make this year one of TSC's strongest yet. Go to the "about TSC" link at the top of this page to view pictures of The Board of Directors in action at the Supreme Court. As always, have a wonderful weekend!
3/29/12 Sorry for not posting yesterday, the Board of Directors was in town for our Annual Board of Directors Meeting. We spent most of the day on Capitol Hill yesterday visiting several key members of Congress. We stopped by Senator David Vitter's office to personally thank him for his introduction of Lock Box Legislation. We also visited with Congressman Kevin Brady to thank him for his introduction of the Death Tax Repeal act. Finally, we visited with Congressman Jeff Flake's staff to applaud his stance against the Payroll Extension Tax Holiday, which further erodes the Social Security Trust Fund. Great day on Capitol Hill, look for more stories and photos to be posted in the next couple of days.
3/27/12 Lots going on this week here at TSC. The Board of Directors will be arriving in Washington today for our annual Board of Directors Meeting. We will be spending most of the day tomorrow meeting with Congressmen and Senators on key issues vital to seniors. We will also be present at the Supreme Court tomorrow to be a part of one of the most historical Supreme Court decisions in the last 50 years, the legality of Obama's Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare). Stay tuned here for updates as they are available.
3/26/12 Hope you all had a wonderful weekend. The showdown is finally upon us as The Supreme Court will begin hearing arguments today on the legality of ObamaCare. The House of Representatives took a good first step on Thursday by voting to repeal the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAD). The IPAD was a Medicare cost cutting panel that was part of President Obama's health care overhaul. The Seniors Coalition was out front on this issue, signing several coalition letters demanding that the IPAD be repealed. Stay tuned to this website for daily updates on the Supreme Court hearing.
3/23/12 As I do every Friday, I want to make sure and urge you all to get outside this weekend and enjoy the spring weather. Monday is the big day, as the Supreme Court is set to hear three days of arguments on the legality of President Obama's health care plan. TSC will be down at the Supreme Court building next week reporting live from the center of the action. Make sure and stay tuned for updates as they are available. Have a great weekend!
3/22/12 I just got off the phone with Dennis from Hazel Park, MI. who called in to TSC to talk about CoLA reform. "Please do all that you can to make sure us seniors get our annual CoLA's. I can't tell you how much I rely on every little penny I can get. With the price of food and medicine constantly rising, not to mention gas, I really do need everything we seniors are entitled to." Thanks for the call Dennis, and we will keep the pressure on Washington to guarantee a CoLA for seniors every year.
3/21/12 Things are really heating up on Capitol Hill as everyone is awaiting next weeks Supreme Court hearing on the legality of ObamaCare. As I do every Wednesday, I spent the morning attending a meeting of the most conservative and powerful groups in Washington DC. While nobody at this point knows what to expect next week, the future of Medicare and Medicaid as we know it today, lay at the mercy of the Supreme Court's decision. Stay closely tuned to this website for daily updates as they are available.
3/20/12 Sorry for the late post today, I was on Capitol Hill attending a briefing at the Heritage Foundation on the legality of "ObamaCare". The Seniors Coalition was invited to attend this briefing chaired by America's 75th Attorney General, Ed Meese. Next week the Supreme Court will hear six hours of arguments concerning the legality of the Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare), and as General Meese stated at today's briefing, "One of the biggest cases to face the Supreme Court in 50 years." I will be following this issue closely, so stay tuned for daily updates as more information is available.
3/19/12 Hope you all had a great weekend. The US Supreme Court is set to hear arguements next week on the legality of President Obama's Health Care Law (ObamaCare). TSC will be monitoring this issue very closely and will take our Board of Directors to the steps of the Supreme Court next week to make sure the proper and just thing is done, repeal ObamaCare.
3/16/12 Another weekend is upon us, and as always, happy Friday to you all. The weather will again be beautiful across the country so please make sure and get out for a little excercise and some fresh air this weekend. Also, please make sure and visit the TSC action center from the home page of this website and join in on Dr. Bridges Million Petition Challenge. 2012 will be a pivotal year for CoLA reform as well as the repeal of the Death tax. Make sure and have your voice heard by signing each petition today!
3/15/12 Sorry for not posting yesterday, I was on Capitol Hill most of the day meeting with some of the most conservative and influential groups in Washington. Appointments have been scheduled for the upcoming Board of Directors meeting and the board will be meeting with key politicians while in town including Senator David Vitter, original sponsor of S123, The Social Security Lock Box bill as well as Congressman Kevin Brady, original sponsor of HR 1259, the Death Tax Repeal act. Your voices are being heard!
3/13/12 With 110 delegates up for grabs today in the Republican Presidential Nomination race, will this be the primary that shrinks the field of candidates and finally narrows this race? Who do you think will come out on top today in the deep south? Send me your thoughts at TSC@SENIOR.ORG.
3/12/12 Hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I wanted to start the week of by highlighting another of our Member Benefits. Please go to our member benefits page from the home page of our website and contact the Congressional Federal Credit Union. Your membership is free with your TSC member # and you can receive the same banking benefits as members of the US Congress and Senate. Take advantage of these benefits today!!
3/9/12 Happy Friday to you all and as always, make sure and get out this weekend and get some exercise and fresh air. I want to highlight a conversation I had yesterday with a new member of The Seniors Coalition. Jim from Colorado called in to talk about the Payroll Extension Tax, and more specifically why senior citizens aren't up in arms about this extension. "Don't seniors know this only further damages the Social Security Trust Fund?" That is what our job is here at TSC, not only to lobby Congress, but to engage in educational programs to enlighten all TSC members on what exactly is going on on Capitol Hill. And with your help we can reach many more people. Please tell your friends, co workers or fellow church members to join TSC today to become more educated on all senior issues.
3/8/12 Make sure and visit our Benefits Page on our website. As I have been saying for weeks now get in touch with me today at TSC@SENIOR.ORG to get your Seniors Coalition Prescription discount card in the mail. You will be amazed at the savings you will receive on your next trip to the pharmacy.
3/7/12 Good news from Capitol Hill this morning. While attending my weekly meeting today with the most conservative groups in Washington, I learned that the "Death Tax Repeal Act" (HR 1259) now has 202 cosponsors and is only 16 cosponsors short of getting out of committee and on to the House floor for a vote. Also, it has come to my attention that Senator John Thune (SD) will be introducing a Senate version of H.R. 1259 later this month and the language will be almost identical. Make sure and contact your Senators and Congressman and urge them to cosponsor these bills as soon as possible at 202-225-3121.
3/6/12 Super Tuesday has arrived and the experts are wondering if one candidate in the Republican Presidential Primaries can once and for all seperate themselves from the pack. Who do you think will be the last man standing tonight in Ohio? I want to hear your opinions on today's primary at TSC@SENIOR.ORG.
3/5/12 I hope that you all had a great weekend. This will be a busy week here at TSC. I will be spending much of the week on Capitol Hill making sure that the voice of every member of The Seniors Coalition is heard. Updates to come later in the week on my progress. As always, I love hearing from members of The Seniors Coalition so please make sure and email me at TSC@SENIOR.ORG.
3/2/12 I want to take today's post to encourage all Seniors Coalition members to get out and get some exercise and fresh air this weekend. The weather across the country is supposed to be beautiful, and with Spring upon us I want you all to take advantage of the great weather. Have a great weekend!!
3/1/12 If you haven't already seen the video on the home page of our website yet, I strongly encourage you to view it now. This is very alarming testimony basically saying that if Congress doesn't do something soon, Social Security benefits will have to be slashed by 23% for current and future recipients in the very near future. I visited Congressman Paul Ryan's office today in an attempt to discuss this matter and will keep you updated on my progress with his staff.
2/29/12 Sorry for the late post today, as usual I was at my Wednesday meeting with some of the most influential and conservative groups on Capitol Hill. With the election year in full swing there is not a better time to contact your Congressman or Senator and let them know your thoughts about the direction you think our country should be headed in. You can reach your elected officials by calling 202-225-3121.
2/28/12 Make sure and check our benefits page to take advantage of all the perks of being a member of The Seniors Coalition. I have been getting plenty of requests the past week or so for information on becoming a member of the Congressional Federal Credit Union. This is your oportunity to receive the same banking benefits as members of Congress. Make sure and get all the information you need by clicking on our benefits page.

Together we can truly make a difference on Capitol Hill.
2/23/12 As I said yesterday, please make sure and send me your toughts on last nights Republican Presidential Debate. The emails are starting to pour in but I want to hear from everyone. Did you think that any of the condidates seperated themselves from the field with the looming Super Tuesday not far off on the horizon?
2/22/12 I know I haven't mentioned the Republican Presidential Debates in quite some time, but tonight's debate should be worthy of a mention. In the first debate in nearly a month, the four men left standing will once again take to the stage in Arizona to lay out to the American people why they should be the candidate to take on President Obama in the 2012 Presidential Elections. I want to hear your thoughts on the debate at TSC@SENIOR.ORG.
2/21/12 With the TSC Board of Director's meeting scheduled for late March, I want to know what your most pressing issues are for the upcoming year. This is the perfect time to get your wish lists to me so when the Board of Director's is in town for our annual meeting and "Lobbying Day", your opinions can be the forefront of our conversations. As always, send me your ideas to TSC@SENIOR.ORG.

TSC is now emailing copies of our monthly Newsletter 'The Senior Class" and you don't want to miss this oportunity to be in the loop on Washington politics. Please contact me today at TSC@SENIOR.ORG.

2/3/12 Happy Friday to you all. We had a good week here at TSC visiting with some of the most conservative and influential groups on Capitol Hill. I will be on the hill next week as well meeting with key staff members to push for the immediate repeal of the Estate Tax, or Death Tax as it is commonly referred too. Also, if you haven't sent me an email to be including in our on line mailings of "The Senior Class", please contact me today to get in the loop. TSC@SENIOR.ORG. Have a great weekend!
2/2/12 I want to highlight TSC member John Wright from Bloomington, IL who called in yesterday to say, "It is so great to have a real person to talk to about senior's issues. I have been a member of The Seniors Coalition for over 20 years and can not thank you enough for your work. I receive your informative mailings and share them with everyone I know. Thanks, and God bless!" Thanks for the Call John.
1/31/12 Well I haven't commented on the Republican Presidential primaries is some time. Today is the Florida primary and things have gotten down right nasty between the two front runners. Do you think the winner in today's Republican primary in Florida will take the lead for good and head to the Republican National Convention as this years Presidential candidate? Email me your thoughts at TSC@Senior.org.
1/30/12 Hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Please make sure and visit the TSC Action Center at the top of this website and sign all of TSC's petition programs. Dr. Bridges has made a challenge to all TSC members to have at least one million signed petitions for each of our initiatives by the end of the year. Make sure and have your voice heard today.

I also shot some new video footage highlighting our efforts here at The Seniors Coalition that should be available to watch on our YouTube channel within the next couple of days. Stay tuned!!
1/24/12 I don't usually like to retread articles but today I came across an article that I thought would be helpful to all Seniors Coalition members. Make sure and read this article so you can familiarize yourself with the 2012 Medicare changes. http://foxbusiness.com/personal-finance/2012/01/19/medicare-changes-every-boomer-needs-to-know-about-for-2012/
1/23/12 Hope you all had a great weekend. As I stated last week I am getting a lot of phone calls and emails asking for TSC Prescription Drug Discount Cards. Just last week in Souix Falls SD at a Wal Mart pharmacy a TSC member saved a whopping 79.8% ($54.15) on a single prescription. Make sure and email me today to get your TSC Prescription card at TSC@SENIOR.ORG.
1/20/12 Today's message is to highlight TSC member Hugh McCord from Fairfield, OH. Hugh called in to say, "Thank you so much for all the information that you have sent me over the last year, please keep it coming. Please keep up the great work that you are doing for seniors. Bless you and everyone at TSC for all that you do to keep seniors informed on what is going on in Washington." Thanks for the call Hugh!

1/17/12 I hope that you all had a great Holiday weekend. Today marks the first day of the Congressional fiscal year and I want to know what is your biggest priority for The Seniors Coalition in 2012? Please keep the pressure on Capitol Hill to ensure that my childrens children have the same opportunities in life that I had." Thanks for the call Joseph, and rest assured we will keep on pressuring the politicians in Washington to do right by all American citizens.
1/10/12 2012 is in full swing and I wanted to urge all TSC members to visit the "TSC Action Center" and sign all our petitions. Dr. Joe Bridges issued a challenge at the end of 2011 to garner a million signed petitions for all of our petition drives, and I intend to push until that goal is reached. You can easily access the Action Center from the home page of this website.
1/9/12 With the New Hampshire primary set for tomorrow, Republican Presidential hopefuls escalated their attacks on front runner Mitt Romney. It seems like Romney is clearly at the head of the slate considering he is being attacked by all challengers. Do you think Mitt Romney has what it takes to defeat President Obama? Send me your thougts today at tsc@senior.org.
1/6/12 Since it's the first of the year I wanted to use today's message to remind all TSC members to visit the member benefit page to see all the savings you can get by being a member of The Seniors Coalition. Also please contact me at tsc@senior.org to get your free TSC prescription drug discount card and start saving lots of money everytime you go to the pharmacy.
1/4/12 It was a record breaking night in Iowa last night with Mitt Romney edging Rick Santorum by only 8 votes to win the Iowa Caucus. This is the closest margin of victory in the history of the Iowa Caucus and has begun to shape the field for the 2012 Presidential election. Now it's off to New Hampshire for the second leg of a long race. Send me your thoughts on last nights historical caucus at tsc@senior.org.
1/3/12 I hope that you all had a very happy and enjoyable Holiday Season. It's back to work here at The Seniors Coalition. Tonight is the first major step in gaining the Republican Presidential nomination. Who will win the Iowa caucus tonight and gain the early momentum? Let me know your thoughts today at TSC@SENIOR.ORG.
12/23/11 Happy Holidays to all Seniors Coalition members. This is the last day of the year that I will be posting messages so I just wanted to say to all of you THANKS for all your support during 2011 and here's to an even better 2012!! Have a wonderful Holiday season and a blessed New Year!!
12/22/11 With the Holiday Season officially here, I wanted to use today's message to thank each and every member of The Seniors Coalition for all of your help over the course of the last year. It's truly a pleasure to do my job on a daily basis knowing that I am representing such a strong group of united senior citizens. I look forward to working harder for you than ever in 2012. Thanks again!
12/21/11 With the Senate already home for the Holidays and the House set to adjourn today, there seems to be no chance for any legislation to be passed that would extend the Payroll Tax Cut before it expires on December 31st. The House of Representatives have officially sent back the Senate legislation that would have extended the payroll tax for two months. And here we are as always, the American public, being overlooked as usual in favor of partisan politics.
12/20/11 It looks like the Payroll Tax Cut extension has turned into a game of chicken between the Senate and the House of Representatives. House Republicans last night have apparently scrapped a vote on the Senate passed two month extension to the Payroll Tax Cut. With Friday's deadline looming, lets hope that these politicians can find a way to compromise and do right by the American people. The House is currently debating this issue and I will keep you up to date on any late breaking news.
12/19/11 Over the weekend the Democratic led Senate passed a two month extension on the Payroll Tax Cut by a vote of 89-10. Although the Senate never voted on a House bill that would have extended the Payroll Tax for a full year, the Senate's bill is now apparently going to be voted on by the House tonight. This is politics at it's best, Democrats kicking the can down the road and putting off the tough decisions for an 8th time this year. It's time to stop stalling and holding the American people hostage and do your job!
12/16/11 President Obama and Labor Secretary Hilda Solis will hold a press conference today at noon to announce the President's "we can't wait" campaign. Can't wait for what you may ask? Can't wait to use his executive powers to "stimulate" the economy. And his latest stimulations? Forcing senior citizens to pay higher wages on "in home care". When are seniors going to finally get some relief from this intrusive government interference in their lives?
12/15/11 House Republicans have introduced a new 1,219 page spending bill early Thursday morning which would keep the Government open past Friday, when current funding is scheduled to run out. Here is the response by White House communications director Dan Pfeiffer, "Congress should pass a short-term continuing resolution as it has seven times already this year so that all parties will have an appropriate opportunity to consider and complete all of the critical budget and economic issues necessary to finish our responsibilities for the year." SEVEN times this year? I think its about time the Obama administration and the Democratic party stop stalling with politics and actually DO the job they were elected to do.
12/14/11 The House of Representatives voted yesterday on a bill to extend the Payroll Tax Cut and give the green light to the Keystone Pipeline, which passed by a marging of 234-193, and has been categorized as "shovel ready" and would employ almost 20,000 American workers immediately. President Obama has threatened to veto this bill should it reach his desk, even though most of what is in the bill is exactly what the President has asked for. It seems that the President is worried about environmentalists in his own party and the negative press this legislation may garner for his 2012 re-election bid. With another potential government shutdown looming this Friday, is this really the time to hold the American citizens hostage while President Obama is busy protecting his own political future?
12/13/11 Well it looks like the House and Senate will be very busy during the next few weeks leading up to the Christmas recess. There are key votes possible today including a bill that would extend the Payroll Tax cut, which directly affects Social Security. TSC will follow this vote closely and post the results tomorrow.
12/12/11 I hope that you all had a great weekend. It looks like the Republican primary Presidential debates are finally shaping up to be a two man battle. Did you watch the debates this weekend? Who did you think managed to stand out on Saturday night? As always send me your thoughts at tsc@senior.org.
12/9/11 Happy Friday, as always. The Seniors Coalition has had a very busy and productive week, and I hope that you all have been following closely. Your voices and opinions are being trumpeted on Capitol Hill, and I hope you are all proud of the work we are doing on your behalf. Have a great weekend and, as always, be safe!
12/8/11 I had a great meeting with Congressman Andy Harris (R-MD) today at the Capitol Hill Club. Congressman Harris seemed quite interested in what issues senior citizens are concerned with heading into 2012. I had the opportunity to raise several of your concerns ranging from legislation to finally enact a Social Security Lock Box, to the reform of how your annual CoLAs are computed. During our time together I also urged Congressman Harris to cosponsor several bills that are currently in Committees and waiting to be sent to the floor of Congress including H.R. 149, which would eliminate taxes on Social Security benefits, and H.R. 177, which would finally repeal the unpopular Death Tax. Look for a full story on the website later today.
12/7/11 The Seniors Coalition has been invited to a very personal "Coffee with Congressman Andy Harris" tomorrow morning at the Capitol Hill Club. I will personally be attending this meeting to discuss legislative and regulatory issues, and more specifically to gain the Congressman's support on issues vital to TSC members, like Lock Box Legislation and CoLA reform. Look for a recap of my visit tomorrow morning.
12/6/11 While the Medicare premiums in 2012 will increase at what the Obama administration calls a "modest" 3.6%, I think the real issue here is are we being told the truth about how these savings are being paid for? President Obama is again trying to decrease the Payroll Tax that funds Social Security by 3.1%. Now if you couple that with former President Clinton's Social Security tax that seniors are forced to pay now, how much of a break are seniors really getting? I think we should be very careful how we react to this news. Lets all remember that the 2012 Presidential elections are right around the corner and we should all be wary of "election year politics".
12/5/11 I hope that everyone had a wonderful weekend. Looks like the 2012 Republican Presidential candidates list has gotten smaller as Hermain Cain has announced a suspension to his Presidential bid. TSC is following the ongoing race closely with all of its twists and turns. Who do you think will end up with the 2012 GOP Presidential primary victory? Send me your opinions today at tsc@senior.org.
12/2/11 Happy Friday and I hope that everyone gets out and has a great weekend. I wanted today's message to focus on TSC's membership benefits, and more specifically, The Seniors Coalition's Prescription Drug Card plan. I urge you all to contact me as soon as possible to get yourself a PDC card and start saving money every time you go to your pharmacy. Just last week, right around the corner in Falls Church, VA a TSC member went into a Harris Teeter pharmacy and saved a whopping 74.7% on one single perscription. That was a savings of $49.26 off of the original price of $65.95. Please get in touch with me at tsc@senior.org to get in on these incredible savings as soon as possible.
11/30/11 EXTRA! The Seniors Coalition scores another victory! In the May edition of TSC's newsletter, "The Senior Class" (Vol. XXII, Issue 4), President & CEO Dr. Joe Bridges predicted: "Donald Berwick's tenure as head of Medicare will come to an end this year." I am pleased to say TSC's campaign to "Dump Berwick" has succeeded. Berwick has announced that Friday will be his last day at the helm of Medicare, where President Obama installed him without Congressional approval using a so-called "recess appointment", Berwick was Obama's chief henchman, overseeing the dismantlement of Medicare in order to pave the way for Obamacare. Now we have to stop Berwick's designated replacement, Marilyn Tavenner (who is just as bad if not worse), and then go on to repeal Obamacare. Stay tuned for more information. In the meantime, you can read the May newsletter article here: http://www.senior.org/images/senior%20class%20-%20may%202011.pdf
11/30/11 I wanted to share a story I read yesterday about a senior citizen in Seattle Washington with a guilty conscience. It seems this gentleman stole $20-$30 dollars from a Sears register in the 1940s. Well over the weekend this man's guilt had finally reached a boiling point because he marched into the same Sears with an envelope with $100 dollars in it and a note explaining what he had done and that he wanted to pay back the money and right his wrong. Now only imagine if the politicians in Washington DC could take a clue from this gentleman and repay the billions of dollars that they have stolen from the Social Security Trust Fund. Don't hold your breath on that one.
11/29/11 Today I want to recognize a TSC member that called in yesterday to tell me what she was thankful for over the Holidays. Dorothy from Texas called in to say "I am thankful over the Holidays that I am a member of The Seniors Coalition and I can't tell you how comforting it is to know that we, as seniors, have The Seniors Coalition fighting the politicians on Capitol Hill to make sure seniors aren't taken advantage of." Thanks for the call Dorothy, and I will continue to fight for you to the best of my ability.
11/28/11 Well I hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and a long weekend to recuperate. Back to business here at The Seniors Coalition. As I stated in an earlier post last week, Dr. Bridges has issued a challenge to all Seniors Coalition members to receive over a million signed petitions for each of our major petition drives, such as CoLA reform, Lock Box Legislation and Totalization. Make sure and go to the TSC Action Center today and sign all of TSC's petitions. Please don't be left out of this monumental push to get the attention of Congress once and for all.
11/22/11 While the deadline for the Super Committee to officially come up with a deal is not until Wednesday at midnight, both sides have officially conceded that they failed. Now it's time for the finger pointing as usual. Both sides are openly blaming each other and the people that really lose are the American citizens. Please get active and make sure and call your Congressman and Senators today. Make sure they know that business as usual in Washington is no longer acceptable behavior. 202-224-3121.
11/21/11 Hope you all had a great weekend. Looks like the weekend wasn't so good for the Congressional Super Committee. Compromise seems to be a lost art on Capitol Hill. With most of Congress shut down for the Thanksgiving break, lets hope the twelve members of the Super Committee can come together and avoid across the board cuts that could prove disastrous. Look for a major announcement from the Super Committee at some point today. I will make sure and post this information as soon as it is released.
11/18/11 Dr. Bridges has issued a challenge and I am fully committed to work until our goal is reached. Seniors are angry and frustrated and I intend to make sure all your voices are heard. Make sure and go to the TSC action center and sign all our petitions to give me as much leverage as you can to take to Capitol Hill. Have a great weekend and be safe!
11/17/11 Here at The Seniors Coalition we are following the Congressional Supercommittee negotiations closely. I hope you all are doing the same thing because what seems to be the biggest target for spending cuts is our current Social Security system. Now I know that we all have to tighten our belts in this tough economic time, but it sure seems like seniors are being targeted often and if the Social Security Trust Fund wasn't raided in the first place by Congress, this issue wouldn't even be on the table. As always, make sure and call your elected officials today and tell them to leave Social Security alone! 202-224-3121.
11/16/11 I want to highlight a member in today's post. Jack from Arizona called in today to say "Thank you so much for all your help and your continued work to further the rights of senior citizens like me. We need someone in our corner like The Seniors Coalition to keep the politicians in Washington on their toes." Thanks for taking the time to call in Jack, and we will continue to do everything we can to make sure your voice is heard!
11/15/11 Here we go again. Congress is once again up against the clock for a potential shutdown this Friday. Why is it that it always has to come down to the last minute with these politicians. Make sure and call your elected officials today and demand that they get their act together to avoid a possible government shutdown at 202-224-3121. http://www.cnn.com/2011/11/14/politics/federal-spending-bill/index.html?hpt=hp_bn3
11/14/11 Hope you all had a great weekend. I have been fielding a lot of calls from the Congressional Federal Credit Union which tells me that you are taking my advice and finding out all they have to offer you. Make sure and check our benefits page and take FULL advantage of all of TSC's member benefits.
11/11/11 Happy Veterans Day to everyone. Thank you to all that have served this great country and please make sure and give thanks to those that you see today who have served. Had some good Hill visits yesterday. Stopped by Presidential hopeful Ron Paul's office as well as Senator Vitter's office and Senator John Boozman as well. Have a great weekend!
11/10/11 Well yesterday I told you all to watch last nights debates to see if anyone could seperate themselves from the pack. And seperate they did. Did you watch last night and what did you think of the spectacle? I am heading down to Capitol Hill today to continue to fight for Lock Box legislation and a revamped CoLA computation. Make sure and check back here tomorrow for a progress report.
11/9//11 Tonights Republican Presidential debates will be held in Michigan and will be one of the most anticipated debates to date. I will be following this debate closely and I hope that you all will as well. It is a critical time for each candidate to find a way to seperate themselves from the pack. I want your feedback tomorrow at tsc@senior.org.
11/8/11 I just came across more news regarding your annual CoLA. This article just goes to show you what TSC has been saying for over a year, Congress needs to pass the 3% guaranteed CoLA increase NOW. Stop throwing senior citizens under the bus and do what's right. This article is a must read. http://news.yahoo.com/formula-reduce-social-security-increase-201418202.html
11/8/11 With the Republican Presidential nomination still up for grabs, things seem to be getting serious. I am following these debates closely and I hope that you all are too. Next years election is one of the most important elections in decades. Read this article to get a glimpse of the "gloves" coming off. http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2011/11/07/bachmann-targets-frugal-socialists-in-republican-party/
11/7/11 Hope you all had a great weekend. Gonna start off the week with a phone call I just took from Walter from Louisiana. Walter called in to say "I am very supportive of the work that you are doing. Keep up the pressure on the politicians in Washington to make sure that they do the right thing, especially with the 2012 elections right around the corner." Thanks Walter, we will do just that!
11/4/11 Happy Friday to everyone and as always I hope everyone has a great weekend. The Seniors Coalition's 2012 membership renewal drive has been mailed out so make sure to get your annual dues back to TSC so you can continue to have your voices heard on Capitol Hill.
11/3/11 Oh boy, this can't end well. With the Republican Presidential Nominee race heating up, things are about to get a little ugly. Lets all hope that the finger pointing can stop and the candidates can start focusing on more important issues that face our country right now, like a Lock Box on the Social Security Trust Fund. Have a quick read of this article and let me know what you think at TSC@SENIOR.ORG. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2011/nov/2/cain-says-perry-staff-behind-harassment-story/
11/2/11 The Seniors Coalition's Prescription Drug Card program is something that you should all be taking advantage of. Just last week a TSC member in Floyds Knob, IN saved a whopping $80.74 on a single prescription. Please contact me to get your card and start saving today. TSC@SENIOR.ORG
11/1/11 November is here and that means one year until next years presidential election. Have you been following the early Presidential debates? Email me at tsc@senior.org and let me know who you think should be our next President.
10/31/11 Happy Halloween to everyone. Hope you all had a wonderful weekend. To those of you on the east coast I hope that all are safe after a very rare October storm that dropped up to 26 inches in some spots on the east coast. I know you are all eagerly awaiting the Medi-Care premium news and I just want to let you know that I am following closely and will have the news to you as SOON as it is available. Keep your fingers crossed!
10/28/11 Another Friday is upon us and winter is on her way. Make sure and get out this weekend and enjoy the beautiful Fall weather, it won't be here long. We had a very productive week at TSC and I plan on being on Capitol Hill again next week. Make sure and check here daily for updates on my Hill visits. Have a great weekend and be safe!
10/27/11 Please make sure and visit the TSC Action Center to participate in our petition drives. We have almost a million "Lock Box" petition signatures and over one hundred thousand CoLA reform petiton signatures but we would love to have everyone on board with our petition drives to make sure that each of your voices are heard on Capitol Hill.
10/26/11 Well here is just another example to add to an extensive list of reasons why Americans are wary of our Federal Government. The headline says it all, "State Department spends $70,000 on Obama books". Wow! Have a read for yourself. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2011/oct/state-department-buys-70000-worth-obama-memoir/
10/25/11 I just got off the phone with Elizabeth from Washington who called in to ask about her 2012 CoLA. "When will we know what the Medicare premiums are going to be for 2012?" That is a great question, and as TSC has been saying for months now, the real key to how much seniors will receive in this years CoLA raise. I have been told by several sources on Capitol Hill that this information will be released within a couple of weeks. I am monitoring this issue intensely and will have the exact rates for everyone as soon as they are released.
10/24/11 As always I hope that everyone had a wonderful Fall weekend. Please make sure and go to the TSC Benefits page to see what we have to offer. As I have said in the past, you really should read all about the Congressional Federal Credit Union to see what they have to offer. Why not enjoy all the banking conveniences that members of Congress enjoy. Also, please make sure and contact me at TSC@SENIOR.ORG to receive your Seniors Coalition Prescription Drug Cards. You won't believe how much money you can save on your prescription drugs.
10/19/11 Well the news is out and there is something to be happy about, the government announced today that seniors will receive a 3.6% CoLA starting in 2012. Here's the catch, Medicare premiums will most likely be hiked and nullify most, if not all, of any increase in your social security checks. Now how much the Medicare premiums will go up is not yet known and won't be known for weeks. TSC has been saying for months now that you would most likely get a 2012 CoLA but that it would basically be erased by the rise in Medicare premiums. Here is a good article that everyone should read on today's news. http://money.cnn.com/2011/10/19/news/economy/social_security_cola_increase/index.htm?hpt=hp_t1
10/18/11 Bonus update, I just got off the phone with one of my Hill contacts and it seems that there will be an announcement on your annual Social Security CoLA tomorrow. Initial reports are that it is possible that seniors will be receiving a 3.5% to 3.7% CoLA. Here is where we need to be careful, what we all need to really watch is how much of an increase there will be in your medi-care premiums. Please check back to this site tomorrow for more updates, as I will be following this issue closely and updating any new information as soon as it is available to me.
10/18/11 I had a great meeting with the staff of Senator Vitter yesterday. I am happy to announce that The Seniors Coalition and Senator Vitter will combine forces and make a push for cosponsors to Senator Vitter's Senate Bill 123, the Social Security Lock Box Act. Make sure and call your Senators today at 202-224-3121 and urge them to cosponsor S123.
10/17/11 As always I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. We have a busy week planned at TSC. I will be on Capitol Hill again today meeting with Senator Vitter's staff offering support for Senate bill 123 (Socail Security Lock Box Act of 2011).
10/14/11 Just got back from my Hill visits today and I again met with the Legislative assistant for Congressman Aaron Schock of the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Social Security. I am now in the process of trying to have a representative from TSC testify at next weeks hearing on the annual CoLA legislation. I also stopped by Congressman Ron Paul's office to lend support to his bill H.R.219 "Social Security Preservation Act". You are being represented on Capitol Hill and should rest assured that I will continue to fight for your rights until your voices have been heard. As always, have a wonderful weekend!
10/13/11 The Seniors Coalition had our annual Board of Directors meeting on Tuesday. Some of the primary focuses during this meeting were the 2010 financial audit which was prepared by two seperate CPA firms. This is a question that gets asked a lot and I am happy to report that in 2010, over 78% of all funds raised by TSC last year went directly to our public education and advocacy programs.
10/12/11 Well the Republican Presidential debates are starting to really heat up. Did you watch the debates in New Hampshire last night? I would love to hear your thoughts. Email them to me at tsc@senior.org.
10/11/11 Interesting story in the Washington Times today that I wanted to share with everyone. This is a good indication of why the American people seem to have lost trust when it comes to our Congressmen and Senators. As always please let me know your thoughts at tsc@senior.org. http://thewashingtontimes.com/news/2011/oct/10/pelosi-disclosure-belated-in-husbands-land-deal/
10/10/11 Good morning and I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. With more Hill visits scheduled this week, I ask that everyone visit the TSC Action Center here on the TSC website and make sure and sign all of our petitions. We currently have 958,173 signed "Lock Box" petitions and it would be great to have that number over a million by Friday for my Hill visits.
10/7/11 Just a reminder that the Congressional Federal Credit Union is again on board with The Seniors Coalition as a member benefit. Please make sure and go to the benefits page and learn how many banking options they offer. And remember, you can receive the same benefits as members of the US Congress. This really is an offer you shouldn't pass on.
10/6/11 Just got off the phone with a new member of The Seniors Coalition. Iris from Fort Walton Beach called in to say "My pastor has been telling me I have to be a member of The Seniors Coalition for months. I trust him as much as anyone in my life so I took his advice and joined, and I couldn't be happier. Please keep up the work you are doing for seniors." We sure will Iris, and thanks for the call.
10/5/11 As I mentioned on Monday, I was on Capitol Hill yesterday visiting several offices of the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Social Security. With almost 1,000,000 signatures for our on going "Lock Box" petition, as well as over 100,000 CoLA petitions, I think it's safe to say your voice was heard. That is why it is so important to stay active in all of TSC's petition drives. This process does work!
10/4/11 Please get in touch with me today to get your Seniors Coalition Prescription Discount Drug Card. You must get in on the savings. A TSC member in Illinois went into a Wal Mart Pharmacy just last week and saved $99.29 on ONE Prescription. That is a savings of 72.7%. As always I can be reached at TSC@Senior.org.
10/3/11 I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. This week I will be making visits to Capitol Hill, hitting up Congressional offices of members on the Ways and Means Committee on Social Security with the results of over 100,000 signatures for CoLA reform. Keeping with Friday's theme, this WEEK your voices will be heard. As always, make sure and call your Congressman and Senators demanding the reinstatement of your CoLAs (202-224-3121).
9/30/11 Happy Friday to everyone and as always make sure you get outside this weekend and enjoy the beautiful Fall weather. Today at TSC I am getting your petition responses together with carefully scripted letters to each and every member of the US Senate demanding the immediate reinstatement of your deserved CoLA. Your voices are being heard in Washington TODAY!
9/28/11 Todays edition of the mailbag is a letter to The Seniors Coalition from Agnes from Pennsylvania. Agnes wrote, "I have been a member of The Seniors Coalition for over 5 years and appreciate all that you do for us seniors. Please put pressure on Congress to restore our CoLAs. For some of us it can mean the difference in eating at the end of the month or having our lights on." This is exactly why we keep fighting so hard day in and day out. For people like Agnes, and all seniors across America.
9/27/11 When will the politicians learn that threatening the American citizens to further their own agendas is not only irresponsible, but just wrong. Read this article and tell me where you stand via email at tsc@senior.org. http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2011/09/27/cnn-poll-majority-say-neither-partys-policies-good-for-country/more-177899
9/23/11 Please take the time to send me an email and request The Seniors Coalition prescription discount drug cards. Some of the savings are amazing. Just last week a TSC member used their card at a safeway pharmacy in Vancouver, WA and saved a whopping 85.1%, That was a savings of $76.62. Get in on the savings today at tsc@senior.org.
9/22/11 Todays edition of the mailbag is from Virginia from Balitimore, Maryland. Virginia wrote in to The Seniors Coalition to say, "I pray for all of you in your efforts to reclaim OUR AMERICA. God bless you all and with the prayers and efforts of true Americans, we will be able to achieve that which we as Americans want for our children and grandchildred, our CONSTITUTIONAL FREEDOMS!" Thank you Virginia.
9/21/11 The government has withheld your CoLA's for the last two years and argue that everyone must cut corners to survive in this hostile economy. Yet they have the funds to dine on $16 dollar muffins and $8 cups of coffee. "Do as I say, not as I do", would be the montra on Capitol Hill. Please read this article and let me know your thoughts at tsc@senior.org. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2011/sep/20/taxpayers-foot-bill-justice-department-16-muffins/
9/20/11 Now I know that nobody wants to have their taxes raised, and I totally understand that. But it's articles like the one attached below that just make our elected officials look so unbelievable out of touch with the average American, much less the senior citizens that live and count on Social Security every month. Please read this article and let me know your thoughts at tsc@senior.org. http://www.dailyfinance.com/2011/09/19/does-it-really-cost-this-tea-party-congressman-200-000-to-feed/?icid=maing-grid7|main5|d|17|sec1_Ink2|97236
9/19/11 The President announced his debt plan today and wouldn't you know it, Medicare is at the top of the page. Under Obama's current plan $248 billion, yes billion, would be cut from Medicare. Make sure and have your voice heard by contacting your member of Congress and Senators today at 202-224-3121.

Today Obama will introduce his nine weeks late budget plan to Congress and already it has created tension. His approach to the Social Security plan prompted angry responses from both sides of the aisle, including angering his liberal base. President Obama continues to target seniors rather than cutting government spending, and The Seniors Coalition will continue to fight for the money that senior citizens have earned through a lifetime of hard work.
