Give Me My Fair CoLA Petition

According to a TSC analysis, the average senior citizen has been denied approximately id=mce_marker,266.00 in additional benefits thanks to the Obama Administration's refusal to grant Social Security Cost-of-Living adjustments 2010 and 2011. CoLAs are computed using the previous year's benefits as a base amount so the failure to adjust Social Security payments results in lower benefits in years to come.

To fight back, The Seniors Coalition is battling for a fair CoLA and is supporting the reintroduction of H.R. 4193 from the 111th Congress which will guarantee a 3% annual Social Security Cost-of-Living Adjustment. Sign the petition in support of H.R. 4193 by completing the form below!

GUARANTEED 3% ANNUAL CoLA PETITION TO CONGRESS

To the Members of Congress:

I'm a Senior Citizen and I rely on my Social Security benefits. I count on my annual Cost-of-Living Adjustment ("CoLA") to keep up with rising prices. There was no CoLA in 2010, for the first time in nearly 30 years. And then the government has announced there would be no 2011 CoLA -- this is the first time in history was no CoLA for two years in a row!

The broken CoLA system should be replaced with a GUARANTEED 3% ANNUAL CoLA. Congress failed to approve this fix in 2010, costing the average Social Security beneficiary $1,266 in just three years. This is an unprecedented and outrageous rip-off.

I support legislation called the "Guaranteed 3% CoLA for Seniors Act" (H.R. 4193 in the 111th Congress). I don't care about all the calculations and smoke and mirrors from the bean-counters at the Congressional Budget Office who say prices haven't gone up. I want a guaranteed 3% CoLA every year! Reintroduce this legislation and vote to make it law now! And make it retroactive to January 2010, to give back our id=mce_marker,266!

While you high and mighty Members of Congress take your $174,000 per year "base salaries," you made a big show of voting to reject your automatic pay hike in 2011. Congress's "CoLA" increase would have been an extra $9,200 per year in 2011 -- this "extra" money is more than the average Social Security beneficiary's $14,066 total for the whole year! Seniors deserve a fair CoLA!

I join with The Seniors Coalition and its millions of supporters in all 50 states to DEMAND that Senior Citizens and our 2013 CoLA must be at the top of Congress's agenda. I demand that you reintroduce and vote to approve H.R. 4193 -- retroactive to the start of 2010 to give us our $1,266 back -- and guarantee me a 3% CoLA in 2011 and every year after that!
