TSC Receives Distinguished Service Award from the AOA

The American Optemetric Association (AOA) Low Vision Rehabilition Section (LVRS) presented the 2006 Distinguished Service Award to The Seniors Coalition.

The Distinguished Service Award is given to a non-optometric colleague or organization for outstanding service and dedication to the visual welfare of the public and for contributions to the advancement of low vision care.

TSC Board Member Dave Herman, who was on hand to accept the award on behalf of The Seniors Coalition, summed up their role in promoting optometric care for the aging population. “The right thing to do is educate our population on Low Vision Rehabilitation”, he said. “We must get our government health care funds providers to understand the true cost of not favoring this important treatment modality at the earliest stages of sight impairment.”

The award was presented at the LVRS Annual Awards Reception during the 2006 Optometry's Meeting™ in Las Vegas, NV. The reception was hosted and the awards were presented by the LVRS Council Chair, Dr. Tracy Williams.
